May 1 closures: who to boycott? Rallies (Live thread)
05/01/06

Posted on 04/30/2006 9:38:02 PM PDT by Heartofsong83

This should be a list of who is planning to close their business on Monday, May 1 in response of the Great American Boycott. We should compile it and boycott them ourselves if possible!

Remember to go shopping or work overtime on May 1!

The worst, I learned the *hard* way, are lovely, luscious raspberries. No way to clean the gradoo out from the all the little crevices. I became violently ill with the first sip of a smoothee I had made with frozen raspberries from Chile.

Really made me mad because I'm allergic to strawberries and had always been able to eat raspberries and loved them. Off my list now.

Please, put me on the kitchen list, too.

I'll need a ping because I won't see it when it pops up on the new threads because I'll be out SHOPPING!

Taco Bell is a Pepsi company, along with Pizza Hut.

Not anymore, they were spun off.

I also has a leisurely drive to work today in Southern California. But......it's a fleeting luxury since they don't plan to continue after today. If our deportation laws and Employer Sanctions were enforced, it could be this way everyday again..............ahhhhhhh.....the fantasy.

I'm running about 60% absentees today and that's 30% higher than normal.

Surely, you gave them all zeros for the day. There's no excuse to skip out today or any day.

If you are ever stopped for speeding, say your car is an undocumented police vehicle on the way to an undocumented emergency.

Just spent money at several stores including Wal-mart. Sales clerks said they were busier than normal.
I'm curious if ANYONE in the fair media (that's about 10%) has proven that illegals DON"T pay taxes. Why do we keep hearing this? Many are paid in cash , they tap into entitlement programs, etc. I keep hearing this go unchallenged. I want to hear someone talk about the real cost per illegal to taxpayers...and stop the lie that illegals pay taxes and contribute to our society. Ever see an episode of cops? 99% are not English speaking criminals.

From the Washington Post:

State police and traffic reporters around the region said the morning rush hour was noticeably lighter than usual, a calm that some said could be the result of fewer immigrants driving into work. But while some restaurants -- a Wendy's in Arlington, for example, a Corner Bakery restaurant in Northwest and the French La Chaumier in Georgetown -- were closed because of the boycott, local hotels reported that only a few people requested the day off and others showed up for work as usual.

Thanks again, Ben. They will probably chant for Tony to come out and speak to them; what are the odds he will? Channel 4 showing peaceful marchers with U.S. flags. Bet they won't show the signs you saw.

JP, see Ben's birdseye report on post 591.

Thanks for the inside info. Now what the hell do they do to our food in the restaurants? Maybe I don't want to know!

Suggestion/Question: Is there a business out there which has boldly stated that it will FIRE any and all its employees who skip work in order to protest? If so, I will endeavor to direct my discretionary dollars toward it!

It's likely that any business like that wouldn't employ any illegals in the first place.

I live in Southern California where Ralphs Grocery stores are popular. I wrote Ralphs a nice long letter and have mailed my Ralphs grocery card and keychain mini-card back to them telling them to close my account.

Please tell me why. I was about to go shopping there!

I don't have cable, Piper, so don't know what FNC is doing.

Who are you e-mailing? Sorry if I missed that alert.

Be specific, please.

You ask me what my point is, as if we have not been discussing the real issue for several years now.The issue is what to do with the estimated 12 million people who live and work in this country and have no legal documentation.

The border security issue is being dealt with as budgets double and trained border officers come on line. They also have a big internal bribe and fraud issue that they are working on daily.

The real issue is not the border security, although huge efforting by pundits like Hannity try to shift it in that direction. We all agree on stronger border security, including Bush, as he has stated over and over again to totally deaf ears!

No amount of diversion will change the primary disagreement and the reasons for the demonstrations. It is the people who are here!

This is where the crap hits the fan and one side refuses to even consider any other alternative but removal, and the other side says, no way, no how, not in a million years.....

Not only is that impractical, but it would create a despotic underclass that would cause social disruptions from here to eternity.

Bush thinks the best way is a expanded worker visa program with security as a prime subject. He thinks the eligible people should go to the rear of the line and the criminal element deported. At the same time, with much improved border security and a few dozen changes in business regs, we can control the burgeoning problem.

I think he is right, but I'm not going to listen to people telling me to first close the borders, because we can't. They will just go around, under or through, or they will begin transiting through Canada or the coasts.

You must deal with the demand side of the problem, or you will have failure after failure after failure, just like the war on drugs. A one legged or two legged stool cannot stand up. Neither will border security alone.

Ohio, I was on another thread this morning and I was surprised how many were into the bash Bush mode. Yuck.

Bush bash mode takes over when the mind stops working. It's no different here on the right than it is on the left........in fact, some of these folks may be the very same people. No matter what the issue, or what the relevance is, they have to insult the President. It's sick, IMO

At any rate, I'm back, and FWIW, all of my favorite Mexican restaurants are wide open and doing business. I figured as much here in the (conservative) middle of Ohio, but it's still good to know. :)

Go to Costco (or another big store), buy that plasma TV (or two!) on credit, then return it later in the week.

Then I am ashamed, so be it. I want to do something to reinforce my and other legal Americans contribution. Hurting the pocket book of "illigal" supporters is a great way to start. Better late than never.

A lot people walking south in Main and Spring streets and the sidewalks of Los Angeles street. Looks like the rally at City Hall is ending.
