This should be a list of who is planning to close their business on Monday, May 1 in response of the Great American Boycott. We should compile it and boycott them ourselves if possible!
Remember to go shopping or work overtime on May 1!

In fact, I switched all my meat buying to Whole Foods a couple of months ago for the same reason ... or almost. Local grocers pre-pack most of the meat at the plants.
I noticed the difference (decline) in flavor and asked. They told me about the plant thing and I switched.

May Day used to be associated with spring and maypoles. It was even a custom to leave "may baskets" on neighbors' doorsteps with flowers in them--lilies of the valley were traditional.

My husband and are were just talking about that very idea. Yes we should boycott the companies that shut down. I believe Tyson might be one of them.

If they close voluntarily in my opinion they are stating they support the illegals.Oh, I completely agree. But there may be some companies who don't hire illegals but their employees all "called in sick" so they couldn't open. After they fire them all and hire new employees, I'd like to give them back my business :-)

Cargill does beef for Pizza Hut and assorted Pepsi subcompanies.
We used to make the "Processed Beef-like product" for Pizza Hut at my plant....umm, yummy
And the Tallow, ah yes, the tallow vats. Imagine 2 tons of boiling beef fat and gristle in a large metal container.
Now imagine that yellowish boiling stinking muck in your lipstick and cosmetics...'cause that's where it is now!

Try this one too:
Brown ground chuck and drain, mix in 1 large can of chili w/o beans and heat. Drop corn tortillas in hot oil, just a few seconds on each side and place on paper towels to absorb oil. On each tortilla, place warm meat mixture, chopped onions or green onion tops, and grated cheese. Roll em up and place in a casserole dish and pour 1 can of enchilada sauce over the top, along with any leftover meat sauce. Top with more onions if you like and more grated cheese. Heat at 350º til heated through. I actually had a Mexican lady in her 70's ask me how to make these. I was embarrased to tell her I used canned chili.
I think I'll make a pan of these tonite!

To: MineralMan
The impact of illegal aliens is unrecognized by most people. One doesn't have to evaluate certain industry segments to understand the impact of illegal aliens. All one has to do is peruse various state budgets - those with the greatest budget imbalances have the largest number of illegals.
Yes, illegals are involved in every stage of the value-chain in every industry in the US. Likewise, they are also responsible for every significant social degradation in the US, ranging from flaunting the rule of law, causing the understatement of employer liabilities, passing on increased taxpayer costs for social services, overcrowding our schools, and committing a significant portion of serious felonies.

Thanks for the pings. So this is where the action is today. So far, things have been quiet here; traffic flowed smoothly this morning, better than usual. Heh heh. However, street closures have just begun in Los Angeles.
KABC is doing on-scene reports this hour. Haven't heard of any school walk-outs.
Poll to FReep: Do you support the activities organized for the 'Day Without Immigrants'?
P.S. I'll be boycotting Ralphs Market/Kroger from now on.

I agree with you and they need to post an appropriate sign on their window today explaining themselves. I went shopping today and each place I asked if they hired illegals and if they supported the illegal movement. Most of the workers do not know how to address the question and are pretty much quiet. It is hard to get them to answer as they want to avoid any confrontation. My eyes tell me more I guess and that might not be a fair assessment. I don't know and right about now I really don't care.
My cable has been down for 4 hours. I have called three times each time asking if they hired illegals if this is the reason they are down. I finally received a call (I was outside) and the message said "if I wanted to hear this message in English press 1." I was so damn mad I got on the phone and gave them yet another piece of my mind. And I am not done with them.

It's almost noon here in Los Angeles ... a day without Mexicans. I LOVE it and it appears we don't need them.
Mexicans should take their failure to shut down this country (treasonous in itself) as a message that they should pack up and go home. We clearly DON'T need them.

what the newsfeed is showing is the people and the large american flags, but they DON'T zoom in on the signs
