Princeton University sociologist Douglas S. Massey reports that 62 percent of illegal immigrants pay income taxes (via withholding) and 66 percent contribute to Social Security. Forbes magazine notes that Mexican illegals aren't clogging up the social-services system: only 5 percent receive food stamps or unemployment assistance; 10 percent send kids to public schools.
Economist Larry Kudlow praises Hispanic entrepreneurship: "According to 2002 Census Bureau data, Hispanics are opening businesses at a rate three times faster than the national average. In addition, there were almost 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses generating $222 billion in revenue in 2002."
Total crime and property crime in California are half what they were in 1980; violent crime has fallen more than a third. The state's Hispanic population during that time has increased 120 percent.

Is that an admission that illegal aliens vote?
Well, if Canada or Mexico actually invade us, I would regard that is a more serious proble than speeding. And when the time comes to negotiate their surrender, I hope we ultimately end up annexing Cabo and British Columbia. I really like Vancouver, it's a very nice city. Does that answer your question?
Sure -- but the question is whether that's a result of Prop 187 and illegal immigration, or something else.
If anyone perpetrates an act that violates our laws, you do not want them in our country. Does that apply only to those who violate our immigration laws or those who violate any law. If your outrage applies only to those that violate immigration laws, what is the moral turpitude that is so heinous that your outrage can be selective. If your outrage applies to all violators of our laws, what would you do with those in our country that violate anything other than our immigration laws? Where would you deport them?
If it anyone who violates our immigration laws is a CRIMINAL, then is anyone who violates our traffic laws a CRIMINAL? Is anyone who is busted for owning a little weed a CRIMINAL? And if they are, is it CRIMINAL to let these CRIMINALS stay here?
If a bunch of commies fly red flags at an anti-war protest, does it indicate an invasion by communists? If a bunch of unreconstructed Southerners fly confederate flags at a rally in Alabama, does that indicate a resurgence of the Confederacy? I don't think so. You cannot equate the flag waving of a bunch of moonbats with an invasion.
I agree that the problem of illegal immigration must be addressed. A national ID card may be needed. A fence is necessary. Huge fines and prison time should be imposed on all those who employ illegals. But, let's control the rhetoric, folks. After this debate is over, we are still going to have to work together on a host of other issues.
I'm on your side as far as wanting to stop illegal immigration goes, but let's not go off the deep end and make illegitimate arguments.
For foreign nationals (aka aliens) to stay in this country without a permit is not of itself "criminal," under our law, as I understand it. It is a civil violation.
And as a sidenote, the word "civil" is derived from Latin civis, meaning citizen.
If not a pox, then it is a plague, at least. Quite a disastrous plague. Or perhaps it is more akin to leprosy, as it slowly rots the body of the culture.
IOW, your stats are no better than anybody else's -- it's just an extrapolation from a single point. It may well be more than 11 million illegals, but I suspect your number is at least partly informed by a personal desire that it be more than the gov't says it is.
Me too. If the facts are on his side, he wouldn't have to be selective in their use. He wouldn't have to resort to straw man arguments.
Yeah, it just shows you how f***ing ridiculous Tony's arguments are!! You actually mean to tell me that the other 90% of illegals are simply letting their children go without school or are shelling out the cash necessary to send their kids to private schools....??? WTF...??? That assertion is absolutely preposterous!!
This just proves that Tony (and Luis) don't think about the arguments they try to make, they simply regurgitate whatever the O.B.L. tells them.
Sorry about that -- I was latching on to your comment, not arguing with you, personally.
anti-ILLEGAL immigration
There, now that we defined terms, argue away.
Let's see. My original point was something like this: "Do you want f&*&*ng Hillary Clinton as President, Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, and Harry Reid as majority leader? That's straight where this political Buchananite anti-immigration trainwreck is leading."
And my point remains. Everyone opposes illegal immigration, but the political problem is what to do about it. And the proposed solutions from your side will absolutely eviscerate the GOP nationally, just as it did in California.
That's my point. I'm with President Bush on this one. I would rather find a way to legalize them. We should do it in a way that encourages Hispanics to continue voting GOP in increasing numbers. That's because I think losing elections to Democrats suck. Do you want them raising your taxes, spending your money, and appointing the next round of Supreme Court justices? Do you want them presiding over national security issues and the war on terror? If so, prepare for another 9/11 because it will happen. That sucks much more than illegal immigration.
No, it's not. Know nothings believed that immigration was a danger to the US.
I want the F@CKING law enforced.
Finally...a thread I can feel welcome.
I certainly agree with the latter, and I don't think we're all that far apart on the former. OTOH, when you put felons and border-crossing roofers (say) in the same sentence, it's clear that there's a fundamental difference between the two sorts.
Catering to other illegal immigrants. I just finished reading a government report on that somewhere. I'm sorry I can't recall where. It would be illuminating.
Poor Peter.....poor Peter. "His" country has been invaded by barbarians. ;^)
"These people are natural conservatives, but only if you treat them like what most of them are: human beings who want a better life for themselves. President Bush refused to make the same mistake in Texas, and the results speak for themselves."
I guess to you that's natural conservative to vote democrat 60%,. Illegal is still illegal, we don't need them.
Travis and you are Birchers?
Odd.
