Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

Well, the first 50 responses were inane and at the moment there are a total of 850+ responses. Did anyone get around to discussing the point of Jim Rob's post? For instance, all of free republic should join in a unanimous freeper rejection of any suggestion of a possible McCain/? in '08 in any discussion in any forum by any means.
My senators are Kohl and Feingold. I'll write them, but it's like beating your head against a brick wall.
My rep. is Sensenbrenner. I'll write him and thank him for the bill he introduced.
The rest of you FReepers, write and call before the law hobbles this site!
GEORGE F. WILL: I want to see if you agree with those who say it would be bad for the First Amendment? I know you're not a lawyer, you say that with some pride, but do you think a president, and we've got a lot of non-lawyer presidents, has a duty to make an independent judgment of what is and is not constitutional, and veto bills that, in his judgment, he thinks are unconstitutional?
GOV. BUSH: I do.
WILL: In which case, would you veto the McCain-Feingold bill, or the Shays-Meehan bill?
BUSH: That's an interesting question. I I yes I would. The reason why is two for one, I think it does respe res restrict free speech for individuals. As I understand how the bill was written, I I - I think there's been two versions of it, but as I understand the first version restricted individuals and/or groups from being able to express their opinion. . . .
That being the case, it would be nice if the President would step up and declare an amnesty for anyone charged with breaking the 60/90 day provision.
Ok, lol, you're a couple of days early for this April Fool's joke! LOL!! LOL!! (psssst) you are kidding? Right? HUH? Right, this IS a joke right????
Agreed, in fact from Freepers, I am surprised they would willingly rollover and let this happen rather than fight to stop it in its tracks. Moving off shore because of an unconstitutional regulation regarding speech is not a wise, it essentially says we approve and won't fight back.
I don't think that is what we want.
Oops. That would be 30/60 day provision.
John McKook, worthless slime, haunts the leadership of the GOP like a hideous ghost, always at the ready to serve himself with some anti-American scheme.
Very nice!
Well he is running for President then.
He saw what the internet did to Gore and Kerry in getting facts and truth out, and well...
What's McCain got to hide?
LOL !You ain't seen nuttin' yet!
The main stream media is not going to speak for us. They know their survival is at stake.
Our government would never treat us like this. /sarcasm
THIS IS HUGH AND SERIES. I'M STUNED!!!
Jon McCain sucks rocks.
Why did Bushie sign this piece of shite bill?
I think he thought the USSC would overturn it and he get some good press out of it.
Just one mans opinion, freely given, and worth almost that much.
Make no mistake...McCain and Hillary Clinton will push this to the max.....
Bump.
No kidding. I've tried to keep up with the Sunday morning show threads. They move on at a fairly fast pace.
Then there are the live Senate hearing threads. Talk about moving fast, if you leave the computer for 10 or 15 minutes, you can be 100 - 200 posts behind.
