“Evolution is a scientific fact

Not true. Evolution is not even a theory. It is an hypothesis.

It's obvious that these "teachers" are afraid that, if given the facts, students will see through Darwin's big lie.

Both sides? Why wouldn't they include all religious creation myths?

Just because some percentage, even a majority, of students want to hear "both sides of a controversial issue", it does not follow that both sides should be taught. Holocaust denial comes to mind.

Hollow earth theory still has many adherents as does demon possession. Other big lies?

Evolution has long been taught in the Catholic school system. Evolution is already a standard part of the curriculum in Catholic High Schools and Catholic universities.

Pope John Paul II declared before his death that "fresh knowledge leads to recognition of the theory of evolution as more than just a hypothesis" in a formal statement sent to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

God is in His heaven and all is right in my world.

Happy St Pat's!!

My daughter went to Catholic schools her whole life.

Creationism and ID were taught, but it just wasn't taught as part of the science curriculum's, it was part of the biblical studies courses.

I realize that many public schools can't or won't teach religion but I'm sure some work around can be reached if the ID proponents stop being insistent that ID be taught as a science.

If you don't want your children to be taught evolution then send them to private schools. They will almost certainly get a better education. That's why this agnostic is paying good money to send his daughter to Catholic school.

Go here!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............

http://www.echoesofenoch.com/hollowearth.htm

The Earth is hollow!!!!!!!!!!! I read it on the Internet therefore it must be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bible says so too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........

Isa 40:22 "It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in."

.......and we all know that the Bible is the literal Word of God!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets all get together and get this into our Godless Public School System as a viable alternative!!!!!!!!

Who's with me?

Were humans created by some sort of intelligent designer, possibly a deity, or by did we evolve scientifically based on Charles Darwin’s theories of natural selection?

That's not the question for serious scientists. However, serious scientists consider the possibility that simple living organisms were put here on purpose (or by accident) by some intelligent entity or entities, and then evolved into more complex organisms including humans. But if so, then those intelligent entities must have evolved somehow, from something, but not necessarily via anything resembling the route proposed by mainstream scientists for the Earth-based evolution from non-living matter to living organisms.

“Evolution is a scientific fact and the problem one has when one teaches something besides evolution is you’re going to be teaching opinion, and usually a religious opinion, and that raises first amendment concerns,” said Ken Falk, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana."

Wow - a lawyer AND a scientist! I just love and appreciate what the ACLU is doing for America!

That's nice, but "idiot design" isn't science.

Prove to me that there is physical evidence that there is a "creator."

It's obvious that these "teachers" are afraid that, if given the facts, students will see through Darwin's big lie.

And yet creationists continue to avoid or distort the facts.

Where are your billion year old human fossils?

Why are there no living trilobites, or thecodonts?

Where is your evidence for a cement flood from space that turns plants and animals to rock?

There's little doubt that anyone who wants to push creationism has no interest in teaching science.

Evolution is a scientific fact

An entirely misleading statement.

Variation within a species is a fact.

The mechanism by which whole new species arise is not known. However, it involves the insinuation of non-trivial, directed, and highly complex new information within a genome.

And that implies intelligent action.

I can sympathize with that, but am not convinced that the inmates should be running the asylum.

A sizeable fraction believe that humans were created by another race of beings from another planet. We haven't yet begun to evolve scientifically, although with genetic engineering and cloning this may be about to start.

Darwinists can't begin to explain the origins of DNA, but without understanding that, they cannot begin to prove their thesis. DNA (and RNA) is everything. All life goes back to that fundamental question. And how did it happen in just a few billion years?

All they can do is scratch their heads and say, "Well, it must have happened, because we're here.'

Nice cogitating, Sherlock.

The darwinian faith claims remind me of the old Steve Martin routine, "How to be a millionaire and not pay taxes. First, get a million dollars . . . ."

They understand the "not pay taxes part" but they gloss over the "getting" part as if it were the least important question of all.

They are comical beyond belief. Or at least they would be if they weren't so successful in using the state to terrorize others and to shove their quasi-religious orthodoxy and and rabidly materialist BS down everyone else's throat.

The concept is simple: Were humans created by some sort of intelligent designer, possibly a deity, or by did we evolve scientifically based on Charles Darwin’s theories of natural selection?

More likely a conscious being. There's abundant proof that conscious human beings are the most intelligent life in existence. It's highly probable that a conscious being created our Universe. Look at how man has increasingly created evermore advanced technologies. Conscious intelligence dwarfs all other animals. And that is a huge understatement.

The advancement of technology is on an upward curve. That is, the manipulation of the laws of physics -- nature's laws -- to create something that nature itself could not "produce" sans consciousness -- a pair of shoes, computer, nuclear reactor, internal combustion engine, the Hover Dam, space shuttle  etc. The advanced technology man has created in just the last hundred years is several magnitude more benefit to man than the first 3,000 years of conscious advancement of technology. Yet none of the technologies we benefit from today could have been created without the preceding technologies that lead the way.

How long -- or soon -- will it be to the time Earthlings control the cosmos? According to the technology curve that should happen in 1,000 years or less. Perhaps half that.

The conscious mind/body is the most valuable thing in existence. That humans live only a brief time and then die is a gross injustice. It's an ugly insult to man's magnificent conscious mind/body.

Conscious man increasingly understands nature to control nature. Including the greatest achievement -- curing human death.

Evolution skeptics are still waiting for evos to prove that one species can become an entirely different species.

This has been done several times on these threads with modern plants and insects. Creationists don't accept these proofs because they recognize no valid definition of species.

Generally, biologists recognize organisms as separate species if they can't interbreed, or if their offspring can't breed with each other.

For creationists there are only "kinds". There can't be two species of lizards because they are all the same "kind". They are lizards.

One of the creationists on a recent thread here on FR, went so far as to say that chimpanzees and humans are the same "kind". He didn't explain how this affected his views on marriage. ;)

Here is a link to examples of modern macro-evolution.
