HAS ANYBODY SAID IT YET? BOYCOTT THE OSCARS (Oscars Live Thread)
3-4-06 | freedom4me

Posted on 03/05/2006 1:43:20 PM PST by freedom4me

I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.

I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.

Pass it on...

I swear at the end he was going to say something more, but pulled back at the last minute.

Maybe your scenario is right. I've also read that Brokeback Mountain was hanging on in the theatres just for the Oscars. If it won, then they were hoping the box office would start to be better. If it lost, it would sink out of sight pretty fast.

Bruckheimer has practically saved CBS with all the programs he produces for them.

Our family LOVES CSI! The original, not the spin-offs.

If Hollywood were to actually make a GOOD movie again, people would go the see it.

If it weren't for the Brits, with classics like Lord of the Rings, or decent Morally based fantasies like The Chronicles of Narnia, and War of the Worlds, the films that gained the largest box office purse would surely indicate what type of film the public will still pay money to see.

But Hollywood seems to miss that

What the heck... the only movie you listed that was actually British is the Chronic(les) of Narnia.

Whew! That review cut right to the quick.

...but then again, Charles Krauthammer never pulls any punches.

As for the Follywood Love fest, I had an extremely important reason for tuning out: Communion service.

You missed MY point, LOL.

Something was going on as he walked on stage mouthing angrily at someone to his left BEFORE he took the mike. Yes, he was very much to the point in what he said. Looked straight ahead with a stone face and then got off.

But I'm not going to apologize for recognizing quality in a piece of art.

If your definition of "art" encompasses a movie about sodomites then you really don't know what art is.

The Lord of the Rings was absolutely British. Peter Jackson, filmed most of it in New Zealand and cut the track in England before it was released.

War of the Worlds I'm not sure about but I did not imply it was British.

If by "most of it" you mean, "all of it", then you may have a point. And Jackson, being a New Zealander, would hardly qualify as British at all.

American money, Kiwi director and production company, Anglo-american cast.

Not sure what you original post was but for what its worth, I thought BBM was a beautiful film and I think Ang Lee deserved the Oscar for best director. I'm glad it didn't win best picture ( I was for Crash).

I was hesitant to see the film and despite some more graphic scenes than I would have preferred, I thought it was an incredibly well done film.

I noticed that Tom Hanks was not a happy camper tonight. And he sure was talking to someone as he walked to the microphone. I'll keep watching for an explanation.
