So many democrats are getting smacked with the heavy hand of reality today.

Dick Durbin would call it, "The Crushing Hand of Fate."

Sheryl Crowe would call it karma..

OK, so how does it work when one person calls for a filibuster?

One Senator can withhold consent to move to the vote. As a practical matter, this is futile unless that Senator has 40 like-minded Senators, so as to be able to overcome a cloture motion.

There are other methods to delay taking the vote, but that's the most likely one in play here; and it won't play because Kerry won't find 40 like-minded Senators, willing to vote NAY on cloture, for this nominee.

"Look for the same thing to happen to the Patriot Act later this month"

Later this month? Shoot, it's already the end of the business day on January 27th - there are only 2 business days LEFT in January! How much more later are they gonna get? And what happens to the Patriot Act without them working on it by the end of January?

Did Carper just say with all seriousness, we should not confirm a judge based simply on his qualifications?

That was Lieberman's rationale too, but not stated quite as bluntly.

Thanks. I don't really understand then why Spector called for a vote if they are out of town. Gosh I don't trust these RATS one bit! They have to make this miserable for Bush as they do everything!

LOL...I would LOVE for anything to happen IN PUBLIC, that would get her shrillness to show!!!

Unfortunately, books have been written, telling all about her tantrums, and the way she treats "the help"...but, she still manages to get voted "The Most respected woman", year after year...blech

Kavanaugh....Frist is getting brave!

Kavanaugh was renominated by President Bush. The nomination may get stuck in Committee, as are a couple others. Frist hasn't moved on Myers (out of Committee since March 17, 2005), or Boyle (out of Committee since June 16, 2005). Truth be told, I bet he wishes those nominations would "go away."
