I pop the cork when Alito is sitting on the bench.

Concur, but I'm putting it in the fridge tonight.

Mike is quoting stats that say Alito answer some 97% of the questions asked of him...Alito was asked more questions and gave more answers than ANY recent nominee to the SC...

I also like Byrd, and he OFTEN "surprises" those who lump him in with Kennedy and the others, especially on judicial nominees.

Didn't he vote for Justice Brown for the appeals court?

You don't think that Soros, NARAL, Ralph Neas, Planned Parenthood...aren't just raking Reid over the coals right now?

I'm sure they are. But he campaigned for the job, so I don't feel sorry for him.

I am sure they are behind Reid's stubbornness in allowing a vote to occur.

Yup. And perhaps pressure from Senators, as well. But he;'s now been asked to agree to a time for taking the vote, and is on the record with an objection. He is also on the record as offering DEM speakers through the weekend. I think we'll see a UC agreement to vote, and the agreement will come no later than tomorrow noon. If there isn't an agreement by then, a cloture motion will be filed.

I sure hope that whoever decides where these senators sit during the Bush SOTU speech places Hillary, Kennedy, Reid, Feinstein, Leahy, and the rest in the very back behind some Tall man where they can't be seen by the press corp.

I absolutely despise dingy Reid! I think, he thinks he's looking tough or something! To me he looks like a spiteful child who's throwing a tantrum to get his way, even though they know it'll do no good.

One of my favorite DU postings:

"He's a conservative. And he used to be a member of the KKK.

His core inner self has not changed.

I'm saddened. Women will suffer greatly, for what these men are about to do. It's not a sane country. And DU cannot change America by itself."

'Women will suffer greatly...' I've already told my wife that I'll put her in chains once Alito is confirmed.

Booh-hoo-haah-haah!

"Didn't he vote for Justice Brown for the appeals court?"

Heck no. You didn't think he'd vote for a black woman, did you? He didn't vote for Condi Rice either.

Maybe holding out for some bacon?

Collins and Snowe want the Alito vote to be done and over, so they can get their Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) project before the Senate.

So, not holding out, but the reverse. I think the delay in stating a position is for purpose of playing to the home base, which is predominently liberal.

What a news day.
  1. Byrd votes FOR Alito.
  2. Cindy Sheehan says Clinton should have been impeached for killing more Iraqis than Bush.
  3. Saddam's #2 says WMDs were shipped to Syria in passenger planes with seats removed.

If cloture is invoked, an additional 30 hours of debate are allowed by Senate rules. The 30 hours can be shortened or dropped by unanimous consent.
