Canadian General Election, Live Thread (UPDATE: Conservatives Win!)
Elections Canada ^ | N/A

Posted on 01/23/2006 8:03:44 AM PST by GreenLanternCorps

If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

Ah I see. The phrase 'conservative minority' is deceiving though.. the biggest minority is the majority, isn't it?

A cautionary note for those watching the TV coverage: the totals show which party is leading each riding, not which ridings have been called. Some of them are based on very fragmentary returns.

That said, glad to see that the Tories have nosed ahead for now. Just don't get too euphoric too early.

It's not a majority, it's a plurality. Think of how X42 got elected. But don't think too hard, because when I do my head starts to hurt.

Actually, it would be the plurality.

A conservative majority would be preferable, because without it, it will be hard to get legislation through. But you get what you can get.
