Does he need a written waiver?

Kennedy seemed to think that emails on Christmas eve are as good as letters.

Leaky is now slamming Hatch about the Clinton nominees

Was he referring to those judges who were all eventually confirmed and seated? Those Clinton nominees?

Paul Kane, on C-Span, says there will be a week delay in voting Alito's confirmation out of the committee.

to take it further..Bush and/or the next president will have the chance to name 3-4 justices....thus locking up a solid conservative majority for the next 15 years

He did, but that was just to be "fair", it doesn't actually work that way. Any member can postpone any final vote for one week.

Specter called for Janary 2nd hearings. Someone pointed out that at the end of those hearings, the dems could postpone for a week. So Specter agreed that he would start the hearings on January 9th, in return for an agreement with Leahy that the dems wouldn't use their right to postpone. Leahy can't take that right away from a member, members have individual rights, but it was expected that he had agreement.

Leahy now says they have to postpone simply because his members have plans for the weekend for MLK's Birthday. As if they didn't know that was coming.
the 17th.

Frist better oil the wheels. They got a crapload of issues to tackle, and one that comes to mind aside from this nomination is the renewal of the Patriot Act.

you think they are going to the fret-a-buster?

If they do, we out here in the hinterlands should bombard our employees -- senators and their staffs -- with demands to make it a real fillibuster. Haul out the cots and keep 'em talking 24 hours a day 'till they drop. No more of the phony fillibuster. Time to shine some antiseptic light on Senate procedures.

I don't think that they can. Brit Hume and folk think that Alito has over 60 votes

why did we elect a republican majority if these losers keep bowing down to the dims?

This is a huge victory for the dims and the losers are going to go out and celebrate, while a good man waits his fate.

You will see a huge media buy by the loonies this week and they'll smear him like no person has been smeared before.
