If you apply Clintonian speak to this. Novak might be saying that if the source was revealed, the Presindent would know who the person is, as would 90% of Freepers.

Don't forget that Novak said this person was 'no partisan gunslinger'. This additional clue that the president knows who it was lends more creedance to it being Tenant. This would square with the President saying that anyone found to be involved in committing a crime would not be working in his administration. This assumes that the CIA was commiting a crime when it tried to influence a presidential election.
Why isn't Novak on the pokey for not revealing his source?

Uh, yes he is, unless he's recently changed his party affiliation. He's always been a conservative democrat, but his hatred of George Bush has pretty much made him undistinguishable from Pat Buchanan.
