Newspaper columnist Robert Novak is still not naming his source in the Valerie Plame affair, but he says he is pretty sure the name is no mystery to President Bush.
"I'm confident the president knows who the source is,"...

Title is a little misleading..
"I'm confident the president knows who the source is,"...
Novac doesn't 'know' he thinks he knows.

I'm sure Bush is quite familiar with Wilson.
To: mnehrling
Sure - as always - bug the President, blame the President.
Afterall - that was the purpose of the whole thing - to cause pain and problems for President Bush.
In fact - who cares? No one but Novak, Woodard, Wilson and all democrats.

Novac doesn't 'know' he thinks he knows. And maybe Dubya is the one who told Novak himself, and this is just Novak's way of tweaking his nose.

Not exactly. If the President himself said it or Novak knew he and Rove were behind a conspiracy, his choice of words would most likely be different. It is the subtle words between the major words that make a difference. If Novak knew the President knew, he would have said 'The President knows.'
By saying 'I'm confident the President knows...' is a subconscious way of saying I believe, not I know.
Considering how in the loop Novak supposedly is, that is quite telling.. if he only 'believes' then he is tying the connection himself without any evidence.

Bob is talking about HIS own source...NOT the first person to go around blabbing about Valerie, which was Joe Wilson for sure.
Bob had sources for his story. He has said there were two, and they were in the Administration but not in the White House. Many have speculated he could mean someone at the State Dept. and/or the CIA.
(He also checked with the CIA to see if they minded the info about Valerie appearing in his column and they did not mind. LOL, because later they asked for a Justice Dept. investigation into possible lawbreaking due to the supposed outing of a "covert" agent.)

Does Novak specify: I'm confident that the President NOW KNOWS who the source is/was??????

There is a fine line between what you know and what you believe. If the President told Novak that he knows who the leaker is, does that mean that Novak knows that the President knows who the leaker is? Or just that the President says he knows who the leaker is?

yah. My take too. The media just refuses to let go of this stuff, probably in the vain hope that they can still manufacture grounds to impeach Bush.

Novak is one of the very few guys in the media who's even close to being a straight shooter.
Personally, I don't want journalists who are simply bucket carriers for the administration. I want journalists that are tough, but fair and evenhanded in their work.

To: mnehrling
If Novak knew the President knew, he would have said 'The President knows.'No. Novak isn't as blunt and straightforward as someone like, say, Pat Buchanan.
Rather than coming right out and saying 'the president knows', Novak is more likely to "beat around the bush", so to speak.
To: toaster
I only read the excerpt, but it seems that Novak could be saying that he thinks the POTUS knows the person. Does the POTUS know that the person was Novak's source? Maybe. Maybe not.
It is disturbing that Novak would string this along this way. What a set-up. Novak is a tool.
I will continue to pray for President and Mrs. Bush. What an evil place DC is. I have felt it every time I have visited there, and I do not know why anyone would want to subject himself/herself to the nonsense that goes on day in and day out in our nation's capital. Strong faith is required.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
this could be a good thing...for example, Bush may know that it was one of the Clintonistas...etc
