Minnesota native Al Franken is moving back to Minneapolis, bringing his national radio talk show with him. He is also considering a future run for the U.S. Senate. Last week he was in town promoting his latest book, "The Truth (with jokes)," and doing a live broadcast from the Pantages Theater. On Sunday afternoon he came to the Star Tribune for a meeting with members of the editorial board. The following is excerpted from their conversation:
Al Franken: I know it's probably a bad way to start, but could you guys tell me where to get a Sunday Times? [Silence.] That was a joke.
Q Could you tell us why you're moving the show to Minneapolis?
A Because I can. I'm an empty-nester now, and I'd always thought about moving back to Minnesota. You can do a radio show from pretty much anywhere. Also, I'm thinking of getting involved politically here, so I moved at the first opportunity to come back.
What you guys probably don't know is that I've formed a PAC, called Midwest Values PAC, MVP. I'm going to be raising money for progressive organizations and candidates -- here in Minnesota, in the Midwest and around the country.
Q The last time we talked, it sounded pretty sure that you were going to run for Senate.
A That was your interpretation. I've never been sure that I am. I'm very seriously considering it, but I don't know whether I'm running or not. This cycle, I'm going to be campaigning for Democrats all over the state and all over the country.

It rates a three on performance.
So it will likely be here for a few more minutes.
Unless, of course, it knows it was spotted and decides to try and hide for seven more months.
There actually was a time when I liked him. He used to do some pretty damn funny stuff on SNL. But now he has become an absolute freakin' clueless libtard idiot
Why would Franken run for the Senate? As Willie Sutton said, " . . . that's where the money is."
This is a guy who has a video out, wherein he interviews
4 different people, and when he gets to a
"Republican.Conservative) procedes to sucker punch him..beat on him...hit him with a bat(?)....caling *GOPers* "vicious"???
This is the guy, who when on a stage, being interviewed
in a panel that incloudes a Republican..walks behind
said seated Republcan, and raises his arm, to act as
if he is going to smash his elbow into the back of
the seated Republicans head...and no, it wasn't a skit...
it was a real interview panel.
Yeah...*Republicans* are "vicious".
...Miles to go
before he sleeps...
Now that's what I call progress!
"As in : Progressive tax cuts.
Progressive victory in Iraq.
Progressive deporting Illegals aliens out of this country
Progressively defunding and putting a end to the A.C.L.U
Progressively to begin drilling in ANWR.
Progressively charging, and holding them at criminal trials , and in prisoning those who commit treason."
Odd since their M.O. has always been to run over America's values..
That's probably what the idiot really meant.
What does he mean he's an empty-nester? Does he actually have kids?
Values like murdering every day before noon,
2000 Americans, for the last thirty years.
Those are the values of the Democrat Party.
Go to DU and see what vicious and hateful commentary really is. I have seen a few sarcastic comments here, but most are rooted in the truth. Nothing hateful or vicious.
You sound like a "sleeper cell" troll.
It appears little Al does not play well with others. SOMEBODY needs a timeout.
You getting a NAMBLA award too or is Al hogging the spotlight?
Liberal Democrat values include:
What is it about this message that Americans fail to understand? Why are more and more Americans choosing to reject it in favor of a less liberal candidate?
I heard Rush Limbaugh say something about liberal candidates years ago, and I believe it more and more every year. Liberals have to pretend to be conservative or moderate in order to win elections. They need to fool people and make empty promises to "take care of you" in order to gain power.
Only the weak-minded and lazy buy into the real message from the left, no matter how many times it has been shown to be a complete failure.
Liberals & Democrats worship at the altar of Equality. If some have more they should give it to those who have less. It doesn't matter if they worked for it or not. If some are happy and others are sad, we should make those who are happy sad too. It will be liberals, of course, who will decide who needs more and who needs less. Because they care so much who can doubt that they are best qualified to determine what is best for all.
"Liberals have one cardinal virtue: the employment of governmen police power to take from you the fruits of your labors and give it to people who will vote for them. This is the basis of all liberal policy in the world today."
I like that, and add to it, "They wish to regulate every area of your private life and speech, giving privileges only to their sanctified pet groups and to themselves as rulers. Everyone else is a serf."
YOU SUCK!
Seriously - I remember his schtick on SNL a long, long time ago, before that awful "Stewart" character was inflicted on the nation's airwaves. He had some guy with him whose last name was "Davis", I believe.
He was never funny - his timing was awkward and his delivery was shaky. But not even perfect comedic timing and delivery can't save jokes that suck in the first place.
Several months ago, in the interest of knowing what I'm bashing before I commence with the trashing, scorn, and ridicule, I flipped the TV over to The Sundance Channel and tried watching the TV version of his radio broadcast.
YAWN. All it consisted of was Stanken and some woman mumbling droningly into the mic about some obscure occurrance in NYC art world that meant nothing to me.
This lasted for about 15 minutes before I got bored and changed the channel.
