Dodd Pondering a Bid in 2008

At a movie night for political and media insiders last night, Steve Clemons says Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) "unofficially conveyed his interest in running for the presidency in 2008."

Of course this shouldn't be too much of surprise since Dodd almost ran last time and a possible White House bid was a topic of discussion after last year's elections.

I sometimes find it hard to imagine anyone whose name is being mentioned being the next president. They all have certain liabilities, either in the primary, or general, or both. But one of them will. :)

It is amazing to me that these mediocre, non-leaders with no ideas and nada charisma all want to run for POTUS. Is this fallout from the high self-esteem movement?

Dodd is quite loquacious and glib, and very smart, but also ranks rather high on the obnoxiousness quotient. I guess one tends to go with the other.

Wasn't Nixon a Senator?

This gets my vote for the least exciting news story of 2005.

I guess Dodd's pickup lines aren't working anymore.

He was a sitting Vice President at the time he first ran in 1960. He was a senator when Eisenhower picked him to run for vice president.

How would he interview a VP running mate? "So tell me, ever make a sandwich?"

Senator is not that hard a political job.

You are basically a glorified voter, who tries to sneak home pork and yell alot.

Senators don't actually govern, but they grow massive egos.

If they wanted to do real work, they would become governors, though, with some respect, I'll grant that some governors become senators either because of term limits (See George Allen) or because they feel like being in the spotlight and feeling important while living in semi-retirement.

Dodd for President -- I cannot stop laughing! This one really struck me as being funny.

Guess a lot of Senators don't like Ms. Clinton! :)

So many 'also-rans', yet Dodd remains an 'almost ran'.

She is in the way which is hilarious! Everytime I have heard Senator Inhofe speak, he has another Hillary story -- they are hilarious and make her look like an idiot. She gets NO respect from my Senators or a lot of others it looks like!

You don't think Dodd could carry NC eh?

Heck, Johnny 'Breck Girl' Edwards couldn't carry NC and he was almost born here.

That's why I put in into "extended news." It is hard for me to characterize Dodd's ambitions as breaking any sort of existing mold whatsoever.

Maybe North Carolinians have tired of listening to their own accent. Virginians came to love Governor Warner's Yankee accent. :)

These guys are jokes.

Entertaining, but still jokes.

Dodd and Gingrich should run as the White-Hairdo Twins.

Both would have more luck on Comedy Central than Election Central.

"Come on, we just made her into a sandwich. It's not like I drowned her to death
or something. After all, she wasn't even pregnant with my child. Next question?"

This moron has a lot of skeletons in the closet and would not make it past the Iowa Caucus.
