Season Finale: Rome, Episode 12, Kalends of February 9PM EST---Legio XIII Forever!
HBO ^ | 20 NOV 2005 | dcbryan1

Posted on 11/20/2005 3:52:19 PM PST by DCBryan1

As a result of their arena exploits, Pullo and Vorenus have become heroes to the Roman rank and file, causing Caesar to reward those he normally would punish. Pullo's unexpected return to Vorenus' household is not appreciated by his former slave Eirene. Caesar decides to overhaul the Senate by adding some unexpected new faces, to the chagrin of the old guard. And Servilia hurdles the final obstacle in her ambitious revenge scenario, at Niobe's expense.

In addition, I thought he died at the foot of Pompey's statute...kind of an ironic twist of history.

Yeah he did. Julius Caesar was a very complicated person which is probably why he is such a fascinating historical character.

I'm curious if Julius Caesar really cared for Pompey and others that he had defeated or just felt that having old enemies around and subdued was beneficial to legitimizing his power.

She should have told him the truth. Because she lied, she is a whore.

I thought Vorenus would deal with his wife the same way Pullo dealt with his slaves husband.

Octavian looks a little too much like Justin Timberlake to be a warrior though.

Yeah he was wise enough to realize that he was not meant to be a warrior. Octavian/Augustus has always been my favorite historical character. It's amazing how savvy the man was.

Suetonius records that an account of Caesar's final words was something like "You too, my child?"

Why not tell the truth, and let the chips fall where they may? (yeah, I know its a tv show)If her excuse is so plausible, why didn't she use it? Good riddance. I will miss her breasts, though.

There won't be any major departures from history. Octavian will become the first Emporer, Brutus will commit suicide at Phillipi, Servilla will die of old age, Atia will die of natural causes while Octavian is Consul, etc etc.

The interesting characters in the show have always been Pullo, Vorenus and those that surround them because their fates are unknown.

It's not as simple as all that. The child's father was still alive at the time. He probably would have been killed by the enraged husband.

Also, the welfare of the child was a concern to the mother. Lucius is a good man, but he is still a product of his time. The wife even had to go so far as tell him the the child was blameless.

I wonder if Pullo will ever tell Vorenus he knew about it, and that he killed little Lucius' father.

If that were true, she would not have killed herself and left him parentless.

Yes, yes, I know it's just a show, but what kind of mother leaves her children in such a way?

And Vorenus will probably latch on to the boy next season, as he is the last born of his wife, whom he loved very much.

I wonder if the slave already told him.

They shouldn't have killed Niobe...hope she appears with a bandage on her head in 2007

One can hope.

Poor Vorenus. He would have forgiven her, and understood the circumstances, I think, because he loved her so much.

And now his love is gone, and Pullo walks off holding the hand of the one he loves.

Dammit, can't they let them both be happy at the same time???

I am just so sad for Vorenus.
