Am I the only one who enjoys looking at the FACTS?

Virginia has not elected a Governor of the same party in 32 years.

Both Democrats performed worse in 2005 than in 2001.

Ohio and Texas should have liberal ears ringing.

California was a wipeout. Its going to go the full-blown socialist agenda. The Democrats are going to tax, spend and regulate to the hilt because the voters love them and blessed the unions and turned down the Right's conservative agenda.

I liked the way FoxNews put it: "Virginia and New Jersey have retained Democratic Governors."

The NJ results are more convincing than NJ. If you take out the Independent in Virginia, Democrats actually did better in Virginia.

Well, at least now there is absolutely zero reason to increase fed funds to CA projects, so there should be some reduced waste at the fed level.

Only the looney leftard moonbats would squeal with the glee at the prospect that hugely popular Virginia democratic governor's chosen successor beat a Republican challenger by 4 points. Only the looney leftard moonbats would squeal with glee at the idea that New Jersey - a consistently democratic state - elected elected (GASP!) yet another democrat.

This is not a surge or even a trickle - this is the status quo. It's a sad state for the dems when the status quo excites them.

Virginia didn't change parties so it wasn't a big move. Kaine got elected because Warner signed a tax cut (along with a tax increase).

It still would have been great to win one of these governors over to the right!

Looks like the Virginia numbers are not very different...a minimal change in percentage. 3 percentage points in NJ is a bit of a change, though.

Small tremor was felt in Simi Valley last late night, as President Reagan was rolling in his grave.

God help California.

Republicans/conservatives who lost anywhere last nite need to do what the Dems do after they lose.

ATTACK, criticize, spin, lie, slander, manipulate, obfuscate, and do it with ruthless abandon, and make liberal governing impossible. Seriously.

Like it or not, our side lost last night. OK, we were looking to pick up governorships from the dems, but a loss is a loss. Does it mean anything for 2006? It very well could if the Republicans don't get their act together.

I think that they have already started to take the steps in that direction. But, there has to be more done from a certain occupant of the White House. He can no longer set a "new tone" (read bending over and taking it up the whazooo).

The consolation is Bush's influence this year was marginal to the picture. The California 2003 recall election turned out to be more about putting a popular actor in office than any real realignment in this state's politics and with the public souring on him fast, things have returned to like nothing has changed. We're a country in which Red and Blue State politics are an on-going fact of our national life.

Sadly CA also seems to think abortion should be open and legal to anyone with no restrictions either. If there had been a proposal to make abortion mandatory I suspect that would have passed.

OK I am exaggerating with that last point but it is very discouraging to see how far out of the mainstream CA is on that issue with the defeat of the parental notification question.

I don't think the dead had to vote in NJ. Corzine bought the poor urban minority districts. He was the anti-Bush. He promised tax-cuts for all and more money for all. He appealed to the pro-abortion pro-embryonic stem cell research "progress is God" types - Forrester tried to hop on that bus but why vote for him when Corzine was driving? Naturally everyone voted for Corzine - wouldn't you?

Good post.

I don't remember the story of these two states being a "referendum on the incumbent" in 2001 or 1997. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't remember it.
