If nothing else, Arnold is trying his best. This is a democracy, after all.

Imperial county is rather instructive:
27.9% reporting - 73 is winning 68.1 to 31.9.
Imperial voted for Kerry, it's on the border and is heavily Hispanic. This bodes well for LA county.

0% means only absentee has been counted (absentee is not a precinct). The total numbers (for example, about 350,000 voted on Prop 73) hasn't increased in over an hour.

73 is going to be close. L.A. numbers are going to be interesting on this. Lots of Union types in L.A. were brought to vote --- and that should include a large batch of Catholics.
The demographics of L.A. county democrats is somewhat different than Bay Area democrats.

If we're lucky, not a dime. And perhaps that's why Arnie let them outspend him by so much. I'm not banking on that theory, but it would be nice if it worked out that way.

I think it is. It's not a referendum on abortion. It's a no-brainer referendum on whether a parent should be notified if their minor is getting surgery. Considering that minors need parental permission to get a cavity filled or go on a school trip, this is not only surprising but shocking.

From your link. Only 3,190 ballots cast in San Bernadino? 0.4% turnout? That doesn't make sense:
San Bernardino 888 13 1.4 753,616 3,190 .4 8 9:26pm 8 9:54pm
To: counterpunch
9.2% voter turnout in SF!?!?! BWAHAHAHA! GIRLY-MEN!!

Yes, but its been losing ground all night. In other words, the 'bad' kind of momentum for us! I'm not happy about it, but let's face facts: even the so-called "Republicans" here in California refuse to support Conservatives and Conservative causes. This is why so many of them champion RINOs and badmouth genuine Conservatives as "unelectable." Seen it play out plenty of times.

You are, as so often, right on the practical matters.
The Southland, and esp. LA County will settle the doubtful issues, and it just might be pro-73. An outside chance, and dependent utterly on the Latino Catholic voter.
Cheers,
Richard F.

Your statement is more poignant than you (probably) intended it to be. The Founding Fathers never intended to hand out the privilege of voting so indiscriminately.

When a teacher is hired by a district, union dues are automatically subtracted from their pay check. Then the union goes on to support the causes they champion, which are overwhelming liberal, Democratic causes. Yet there are many conservative, Republican teachers who resent their money paying for policies they don't believe in or agree with.

LA County precints (non-absentee) starting to roll in at 10:10 pm PST. Hang on to your seats.

Arnie's initiatives may have had the same affect against 73 that the anti-gay marriage initiatives had in favor of Bush in the last election cycle.
Lots of people who wouldn't have bothered to get off their backsides actually got out and voted this time. And those lazy ba***rds couldn't give a damn about young girls or unborn babies!

You're exactly right, Doughty.

True enough, but 73 is beyond that. It's not even really a conservative-liberal, GOP-Dem thing. It's letting a parent know what their child is up to.
Remarkable.
