I think it is. It's not a referendum on abortion. It's a no-brainer referendum on whether a parent should be notified if their minor is getting surgery. Considering that minors need parental permission to get a cavity filled or go on a school trip, this is not only surprising but shocking.

Arnie's initiatives may have had the same affect against 73 that the anti-gay marriage initiatives had in favor of Bush in the last election cycle.

Lots of people who wouldn't have bothered to get off their backsides actually got out and voted this time. And those lazy ba***rds couldn't give a damn about young girls or unborn babies!

Well folks, here in Santa Barbara county, 100% of the votes are in. SB is the tiniest bit more conservative than the average of the state, due only to its large non-coastal population. Anyway, everything lost except Prop 75, which won by 150 votes out of 78000. So things are not looking good. It is no across the board across the state tonight.

There are some liberals who believe the right-to-abortion is universal, regardless of age. More moderate liberals would say that while parental notification is good in theory, abusive parents might threaten the daughter and the judicial system would be too scary and bureaucratic for a young girl to handle. I don't believe they're right, but their argument seems to have worked.
