As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.
THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.
Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?
Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!
What you said was "80% turnout."
Most everyone would interpret that to mean that 80% of registered voters turned out to vote.
Now that is probably not what you meant to say, darlin', but not being a mind-reader, I only have your words to go on.
Which is why I thank God that our Founding Father gave us the electoral college as it helps to balance the urban voters.
The MSM hasn't been paying attention to any of these things.
All you see is how terrible it's been for Bush and how can the Dems exploit his misfortune.
Even FOX is all doom and gloom on Bush for the most part.
Which is why the Dems will die a slow death. The urban areas are falling apart. More and more voters there will eventually leave for red states or red suburbs. Their vote will become watered down in power.
And they can't come in large enough numbers to places like my state, Tennessee, and try and shove their left wing liberal crap down our throats.
And I'll fight any national politician trying to take my money to keep propping up those useless cities.
So why did he lose??
You know, I've heard that from a couple guys like you since I've been here, so claim that your "long standing membership here" proves you as a conservative, but given your tone and content of your posts, pardon me if I don't take your word for it. Point out something in any of my posts that is facutally inaccurate and I might take you seriously. Don't give me this crap that you're conservative because you've been here for months or years, and I can't possibly be because I'm a newbie. I've PROVEN my ideological beliefs to those here with my posts here the past couple months. Your long term membership here doesn't make you a conservative. The fact all you can say is "I've been here longer than you" doesn't make you conservative. Get real.
Hillary has the nomination. Warner just upped his stock to be a VP candidate. Allen runs in 2006 for reelection. I am concerned that this result may embolden James Webb to run against Allen. Allen would still win, but the margin may not be as impressive.

Incumbent Democrat mayor Randy Kelly, who endorsed Pres Bush's re-election bid, will be defeated for re-election tonight.
According to Ramsey County, here are the current numbers:

That's a great point, but if she picks anyone else, I'd still be shocked.
Kaine is a Liberal, but he ran a conservative campaign. Kilgore gave up his early lead by running a bad campaign. This was all certainly an important factor.
My main point tonight is that the Democrats maintained the status quo. Republicans lost, in a sense, because they had the opportunity to advance their victories and failed to do so here. In part, because many in their base are feeling a bit down. Had the base been more enthused, it could have overcome a bad campaign by Kilgore.
Good news for Reps is that they have that entirely in their control to learn from and correct. Better they take that lesson now than '06.

Kilgore's voice is the issue. He sounds too country.

One more fact to add regarding Virginia. In November 2001 Mark Warner the Democrat won the governor race in Virginia when President Bush had the highest approval rating nation wide, over 70%, and in Virginia he had an approval rating over 80% during that time.
No way...too much corruption. NJ is another "wait until we find out how many votes we need then show up with a 'surprise' uncounted ballot box" state.
