My Fellow FReepers,
As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.
THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.
Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?
Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!

Polls closed in Virginia. CNN is following the results, Fox seems more concerned with France. So I'm going to do something I very rarily do: watch CNN over Fox News.

turnout is solid across all of VA, except in Northern VA where it is lighter than expected. Definitely good news for Kilgore!
I voted at around 6:30pm in Fairfax. The polling place was empty, last year the line wrapped throughout the school's gym, through the lobby and out the front door. They gave me ballot card #603. I'm not sure if they recycled cards at some point, or what the ranges were at the other two registration tables (names were segregated alphabetically).

"That's somewhat discouraging."
Keyword: somewhat.
The less that vote in northern Virginia, the better.

Umm, isn't a vote by the people to approve the constitutional amendment being held *today*?
Yes... when I read the fine print it seems to make the distinction that the vote today is to approve an amendment to have judges appointed by legislature to draw up the redistricting. So it isn't exactly the same as the voters approving the actual precinct mapping, more like voters approving the legislature to appoint judges to draw up the maps. Because both sides put out such conflicting information, I went to the text and was more confused ;). It also said voters get a say AFTER the plan goes into effect, not before. I am not versed in legalese so if I get any of my summaries wrong, please feel free to correct me.
Honestly: I saw Rob Reiner recommending a NO vote, and that says "YES" to me.

CNN is following the results, No doubt CNN have internal polls, if Kaine was ahead they would have called it by now.

Yes. Potts is/was a republican who ran as an independent because he said Kilgore and the republican party are to far to the right.

last night on the news, heard Kaine say they were prepared for all eventualities, including a FLorida-2000 situation .. so they were now prepared to challenge the validity of a Kilgore win before the first non-absentee vote was cast.Yet another example where the GOP allowed this lie to fester and grow... Now, how many Americans believe there really was voter intimidation and voter supression in Fl? Why doesn't the GOP BLAST this lib for dredging up this lie????
To: Dane
My opinion is the two new governors are going to be Kilgore and Corzine. I may be wrong obviously.
