I never thought I would be defending Bill Clinton on FreeRepublic. Mark this date as an historic moment. Clinton might have actually told the truth.
From the text of his Rosa Parks funeral speech (which, of course, he managed to make about himself)
CLINTON: I remember, as if it were yesterday, that fateful day 50 years ago. I was a 9-year-old southern white boy who rode a segregated bus every single day of my life. I sat in the front. Black folk sat in the back.
When Rosa showed us that black folks didn't have to sit in the back anymore, two of my friends and I, who strongly approved of what she had done, decided we didn't have to sit in the front anymore.
(APPLAUSE)
It was just a tiny gesture by three ordinary kids. But that tiny gesture was repeated over and over again millions and millions of times in the hearts and minds of children, their parents, their grandparents, their great grandparents, proving that she did help to set us all free.
In 1953, Clinton moved to Hot Springs and started school at St. John's Catholic. He then attended Ramble Elementary. He was nine years old when Rosa Parks defied the law on the bus.
I spoke with a very nice lady at the Hot Springs School District. Ramble Elementary has been replaced with a newer school, Park Elementary. The original Ramble building still stands and is a threatre.
There were no school buses. Kids either walked, were taken by parents, or took a city bus to school.
It was a diverse neighborhood. My source mentioned blacks, Lituanians, and Jews. Kids just seemed to all get along.
The source talked to another man in her office who, like her, grew up and went to Hot Springs schools at the same time as Bill Clinton. She and her friends would sometimes join the black kids in the back of the bus. She thought it was the right thing to do.
It is entirely possible that Clinton did join a few of his friends and sit in the back of the bus after hearing about Rosa Parks. Let's give him credit for a possible truth telling episode.
NOTE: He still, however, is a liar, a perjurer, a subornerer of perjury, an obstructor of justice, a threat to national security, a rapist, a threat to witnesses, a horrible and completely phony human being, and an impeached failed president with an evil and dangerous wife.
Please - I was a boy living in Alabama (whose Gov was George Wallace). I was very aware of the Civil Rights movement. There's a difference between awareness and activism. I was aware of it, I just didn't go to Selma and get fire-hosed.
Well, I suppose it's possible he rode the bus home to his friends' homes. Or a city bus.
But Rush had the real point of this - Rose Parks' service, rather than honoring Rosa, was "All about Bill."
Don't have to confirm address-its got big (sickening) signs in front procaliming it as the "Boyhood Home of Bill Clinton". I get sick to my stomach every time I go by...
He obviously did not ride a segregated bus every day of his life. That is an obvious lie. The news of the day would have been a remarkable story. Could other kids have sat with him in the back? It is possible. All I am saying is that this is not his typical lie. It may have some element of truth.
Clinton may not have lied this time. But he shook his finger in my face once too often while lying his butt off for me to ever believe a single syllable emitting from his lips.
How come Clinton got to sit in the front when he was 9? He's black! BTW, has anyone hurled Oreo Cookies at him for any reason?
Who said anything about civil rights?
Clinton probably thought "Hot damn! This opens up a whole new group of girls I can take advantage of!"
This lying sucker always has in mind to make himself look good to the audience hes talking to. Even if hes telling the truth, the reason hes telling it is not what hes acting like it is, so hes lying. He lies even when hes not lying.
I doubt Clinton's telling the truth, but it's possible.
Clinton was born on August 19, 1946.
Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus on December 1, 1955.
He would've been 9.
you left out narcissist.
It could have been a simple case of a kid hearing the news and going to the back to sit with some friends. At nine years of age, the politics of it certainly was not on his mind. He at least might have told a partial truth in this anecdote. Hell froze. Pigs flew.
There you go again, Doug. Writing about The Bent One's legacy.
LOL! That's exactly what I was thinking!
Seems appropriate, doesn't it?
No, but what Doug has done is point out the error of those who have jumped on this saying it is obviously a lie because Arkansas schools were not desegregated until two years later and thus the school buses would not have been "segregated" as described but would have been white only. Doug is pointing out that if clinton rode a bus to school as he claimed it would have been a CITY bus rather than a school bus and thus it would have had whites in the front and blacks in the back.
Doug is not saying that we must assume clinton is telling the truth. He is pointing out that this is an unusual case because clinton might actually be telling the truth and that the circumstances at the time conform to his description of the "events" unlike the non-existent black church burnings from his childhood that were seared into his memory and consciousness.
Of course, he told the story to make it something about him. That will never change.
Most kids go to the back of the bus because that is where all the shenanigans take place.
Even as Bill eulogized Rosa Parks, he still had to make it all about Bill. I - me - I - me. He was there for one reason - to get future votes for Hillary.
and your independent study of integral calculus.............
