Is it safe to say that today Roberts lost whatever shot he had at the anchor desk?
To be "fair" to Roberts, he made his remarks at the morning press "Gaggle", not at the televised press conference. The gaggle is where the reporters ask questions and McClellan answers the easy ones and takes the rest to get answers -- which he will then give when the reporters publicly ask the same questions at the press conference.
If not for this procedure, half the questions at the conference would end up with "I'll have to check", since the press secretary is the spokesperson for the white house and can't answer unless he knows what the white house's answer would be.
If Roberts had asked this question at the press conference, I think it would be right to make a bigger deal out of it. But given the circumstances I think the apology was sufficient.
The whole press conference shows the end of the horse the press represents. What a bunch of idiot losers.
I sent an email and I bet lots of FReepers did.
More excellence from CBS. I still don't know why McClellan felt he had to answer.
I used to like him when he was a vj at muchmusic in the 80s. Peter Principle?
Saying "if a conservative had done the same thing" can get old, I know, but still . . .
If a conservative had said that, the liberals would be in a total uproar, demanding his resignation, etc.
Now, if he would announce his resignation or firing.
Wow, the FCC could fine him for that one!
Don't fire him; instead, wrap that gaffe around his neck for awhile, and nickname him with it. "We turn now to John 'Sloppy Seconds, not the smart one on the Supreme Court' Roberts ... "
Not good enough. CBS has to apologize, and not just to McClellan. Then it has to fire the lowlife SOB.
Shame on Roberts.
McClellan should have revoked his WH press pass on the spot and had the SS throw the dirty-minded troll out onto Pennsylvania Ave.
Whoa. Even CBS "got the buckwheats" over that slip of the tongue!
Wow.
Alito nominated and Roberts' apologizes? Banner Day.
This scum reporter should apologize DIRECTLY and by name to President Bush and Judge Alito......not to McLellan and not to an amorphous public out there in the ether zone.
The sexual reference was a direct crude insult to the President and the nominee, period.
The apology I read is not apology at all.
In fact, it insults apologies everywhere.
