That's something I've pointed out to several on here. They sounded just like those over at DU. Which is one reason why I avoided Miers threads. Too difficult to tell them apart.

I can find quotes in "The Art of War" to support the so-called bloodbath, and to oppose it. It is not a bloodbath that we want, it is VICTORY. Unambiguous and crushing defeat for the enemy. While still leaving them a means to escape of course. There are some battles that are so important, it is worth risking everything. This is one of them.

I'd like to recommend Judge Diane Sykes. She is a true conservative, was put forward for US Circuit from Wisconsin by Senators Feingold and Kohl, both of whom sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She was confirmed overwhelmingly just a couple of years ago by the entire US Senate. They'd have a hard time explaining why they gave her a pass then and want to filibuster now.

Wow, if Feingold supported her, the liberals would sure have a hard time arguing against her.

Can you say Justice Gonzales?

Not gonna happen. This is from the President's statement today:

I understand and share her concern, however, about the current state of the Supreme Court confirmation process. It is clear that Senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House - disclosures that would undermine a President's ability to receive candid counsel. Harriet Miers' decision demonstrates her deep respect for this essential aspect of the Constitutional separation of powers - and confirms my deep respect and admiration for her.

Given this statement, it's clear that the President is not going to nominate a former White House counsel. Period.

Maybe this was one battle they planned on losing all along. I'm beginning to wonder.

Exactly. People are are so concerned about the moderates. I say nuke them.

If Repubs win in 2006, Specter, your chairmanship is toast.

If McCain has aspirations for Pres. well the GOP might forget to send the campaign $$$ you will need.

If moderates what to play hardball well the GOP has many ways to play back (Unless of course if the spines turn to mush).

Pretty shameful behavior by alot of people. At least he knows who will stick with him and who will stick it to him. Lots of the punditocricy has lost their readers and listeners. Now if he can find someone willing to be lynched for the job??

re:Just remember most of the people who opposed Miers were the same who opposed Roberts and oppose everything the Preisdent does. They hate him just as much as the kook left does which is why they sound more and more like them every day.

Oh..yeah...that's it exactly. It's all about hate. yessir definately has nothing to do with principle - like maybe expecting a twice elected so-called conservative president to nominate a candidate who at the very least holds the "quaint" view that the constitution is a limitation on federal power - which really shoud be the only litmus test.
nope. it's all about hate.

So what's your strategy for getting your dream candidate nominated AND confirmed?

A fair question. You can do it through salesmanship. Pick a good product and sell it skillfully. If you can get American voters to love the product, the votes will be there.

You're quite work! I can't claim credit--it's from the Unofficial Site someone's put together for him. But it's impressive work!

OK, fine. I think you underestimate the audacity of Democrats and their campaign managers in the MSM. You also I think underestimate the fear of soccer moms over their own definitions of "a real conservative". But I expect we'll soon see.

No, I have what I think is a reasonably accurate estimation of him. The Dems wanted someone who would mostly preserve the judicial activism that has taken place so far, and they seem to have gotten it.

Actually I think the REAL reason Meirs withdrew herself was because she saw Jay Leno last night and never again wanted Gilbert Godfrey to dress up like her in fake Jeopardy.

No kidding! Which is precisely why conservatives needed to shut up, support and trust the President and have allowed the confirmations to move forward. Can we now just get behind GW and stop pretending that media/Krauthammer was our elected official?

Not just one of his good appointees.

He was THE BEST individual appointed to the Bush cabinet during his first term.

I don't think this weakened President Bush. And we must not let the Dems spin it into that.

As someone pointed out on one of the FoxNews shows, President Reagan had two of his SCOTUS nominees rejected, had the Iran Contra, but still won the cold war and was at least one of, if not the greatest president of modern times.

President Bush did the right thing in having Miers withdraw and if anything we should have more respect for him for that.

Time for the President and the Republicans in Congress to take off the gloves, get a conservative nominee confirmed and if necessary, go for the constitutional option and twist the arms of the traitor Republicans, who scuttled it the last time.

I was working in the conservative movement and reading Buckley, Reagan, and Goldwater before you were a gleam in your dad's eye.

Then I'm surprised you think it was Miers' status as an Evangelical that led conservatives to oppose her.
