Read their works. Makes me think of the concubines. (Us)

We will move that rock now. That rock includes mid-term elections.

"On the other hand that pro-choice sounding speech coming out was pretty much the death knell for the nomination." kjam22 said "That's what I think." But the timing certainly help the President if indictments are on the way.

Let's see now. Rove, Libby, Delay, and now Miers. Man, it hasn't been going well for GW Bush. I actually feel sorry for him since this is exactly what the left wants. Now......here's a for tip GW (not that he would listen to me), but if you want your poll numbers to skyrocket, take the main issue away from the dems in 2008, and reserve your place in history......then......CLOSE the friggin borders, deport every illegal alien and absconder, and enforce the immigration laws to protect the people of this great country. Border security IS national security. Your first term in office was great (terrorism and national security) but your second terms IMHO, has been an utter failure. You still have a chance to salvage your second term and the (illegal) immigration is the way to do it. Rove, Libby, Delay, and Miers would then all be just a mere blip on the radar screen of 8 years of a president who was committed to protecting the American people from terrorists, illegal drug dealers and other assorted foreign murderers.

Does the "red herring" have as much to do with the CIA situation as with the Court?

Her nomination was the result of Chuck Shumer's blackmail.

Dick Durbin is on FNC spouting off about the "Extreme Right of Privacy"...

You're right. I didn't think much of her, but as so many around here are always saying about other nominees to other posts "they deserve a hearing and an up or down vote". So what happens if none of "your" picks is willing to accept a nomination? My choice would be JRB, but if she or others like her are not willing to accept the crap that would fly then what? Even if one of the "anointed by the base" goes for it then the problem will be the myriad of RINOs that have been elected to sit in judgement.

Miers was not a particularly good choice in my estimation, but our side did not handle the process very well by immediately throwing a screaming fit not even 5 minutes after she was nominated -- that's what is expected of dems. The same non-confirmation of Miers could have been accomplished in a more dignified manner without the juvenile histrionics.

He's something. He lives on this forum to be ridiculed, it appears.

The RINO threat has been repeatedly held over our heads as a means of excusing the skipping over of the best-qualified candidates.

If it takes a loss to try to get the job done, so be it.

Then, we could throw out those bums, and start over.

On the other hand that pro-choice sounding speech coming out was pretty much the death knell for the nomination.

I also agree. The difference between now and in Souter's time is that we have a watchdog conservative media who won't allow the president to hoodwink us into buying a stealth liberal and unqualified jurist. Thank God.

As I've said, I think Miers was a decoy to draw the heavy fire from the dems.

What heavy dem fire are you referring to?

I didn't notice any.

Enough conservatives spoke out against Miers, and WE WON

It really clears up who has the pull in this party.

But the truth here is that nobody (other than Bush) really knew what her current opinions on anything were, and seeing a President's choice brought down by mob outcry without even going through the procedures is devastating.

Well said.

He would be an inspired choice!

Brilliant, witty, and competent; all qualities lacking in Bush's first choice for this position.

Plus, I've never met a Romanian who I didn't like.

It's the best part of Eastern Europe, and my favorite country in the Balkans.

I have a distant relative-a scholar for Hoover-whose dissertation, and to a large extent, career focused upon that country's struggle with Communism.

An amazing people.

How in hell can any of you people listen to this wench [Laura Ingraham]?

Easy. She is a true conservative, something you are not, obviously.

What adjectives do you have, other than "wench", to describe Michelle Malkin, Peggy Noonan, Ann Coulter, Charles Krauthammer, George Will, and nearly all other true conservatives who voiced their outrage over this STUPID pick?

Sorry I cant agree with your assesment.

I have never bought into the argument that the democrats could successfully filibuster a Supreme Court nominee. Its one thing to filibuster an Appeals Court nominee when there are literally hundreds and most people arent even paying attention. A SCOTUS nominee is an entirely different matter. There are only nine its its a highly visible event. Particularly if that nominee is clearly and visibly qualified and capable. If they go through the hearings and do a good job the public will insist on an up or down vote.

Besides which EVEN IF THEY COULD the pressure shold be on them to carry it off. We shouldnt refuse to step up to the plate and fight that fight just because we are afraid we MIGHT not win.

IT's TIME TO GO ON THE OFFENSIVE, MR. PRESIDENT!!!

Hopefully he knows that Democratic prosecutors are going to keep indicting conservatives until they get on the offensive.
