History? I see many people here who can't seem to recall the last 12-24 months and countless filibusters. I want to know what the all those who erroneously claim to represent the entire base, led by Bork, Kristol, Coulter, etc. are going to do to tame the Senate...and why they didn't do it earlier?

Obviously the conservative movement made their case against Miers and obviously did a good job of it.

I would argue that a "true conservative" at least in the mold you appear to espouse, would never win an election as President. Witness Buchanan, Falwell, and even McCain in 2000. That's history. Bush ran as a compasionate Conservative, he won. It's a big tent, but Miers was very much towards the outside of the tent. Bush failed to recognize this.

I am serious. A brief reading from Wikipedia has me concerned about Kasler v. Lockyer, but much is dependent on how the decision reads since there is no right to firearm ownership guaranteed by the California Constitution.

Did you know that a Conservative Christian group took a whole full blown ad out yesterday in a paper asking Bush to withdraw Miers? How pathetic is that when they don't even know what she is like?

And that stuff is going to be trumpeted to the hills by the Dems for anyone remotely conservative Bush sends up next.

Opposing Miers and defeating her nomination may have been the right thing to do. But the manner in which it was done is going to come back and bite us big-time. Conservatives who are crowing about this and demanding to be given "credit" are playing right into the hands of the Dems and RINO's.

The Miers disaster was the handiwork of Andy Card, a house of mush. If Bush wants to get back on his game, he had better look to Karen Williams or Edith Jones or Michael Luttig etc.

As I've said, I think Miers was a decoy to draw the heavy fire from the dems. Now, Bush nominates Priscilla Owen or Janice Rogers Brown. It's hard for dems to oppose the second nominaton, especially of someone they already confirmed for the court of appeals.

That's entirely up to Bush. He can cough up another mediocrity, and be abandoned by his base, or he can give his followers a nominee worth fighting for.

Will President Bush now nominate a verifiable judicial conservative or will he be angry at "us" (the base that didn't support Miers) and start meeting with Chuck Schumer and whoever to get their insight on whom to nominate?

Nothing to ponder at all...it really quite simple...if he's "angry at us", he and the Republican party can just be considered impotent till '08 and hurt in the wallet come election time in '06 and in '08. It would be an extremely DUMB move on his part.
