I'm talking about ordinary criminal law within each state - like, someone robs your house and deprives you of "property without due process of law". State case, not a federal case.

I am eating my hat about Rove. You are right about Hughes, she is a first rate mind and an important element in his rise to the Presidency. He can use them both! I hope that I was just as wrong about "his spiteful nature." We will see if his SCOTUS choice is a good conservative or he tries to "stick it" to the conservatives who forced Miers to resign.

Where in the world did you get that about a 'spiteful nature?' I've read a gazillion bios about him, and not one said anything about his being 'spiteful.'
Did you get that from the NYTimes or Molly Ivans?

I am eating my hat about Rove. Would you like mustard with that? LOL
I do not think any of us [on our Big Tent side] are eager to see a White House in disarray. It remains to be seen whether Scooter Libby's indictment is a political prosecution or if there is anything of substance behind it. I lean toward the former but will hold a firm opinion in abeyance until more information is known.
GWB is a curious mix of his mom's fiestiness [and long memory] and his dad's middle of the road wishy-washiness.
Much [probably even more than Bush himself realizes] depends on the prudence of his next SCOTUS pick. If he really does try to "stick it" to his conservative base out of spite ... well, I just do not think the rest of his presidency will have much lustre.
Always hope for the best ... but be prepared for the worst. My only sorrow is for the squandered opportunities ...

Thanks. Well, I think it's best I pass on being a Republican. I'm going to return the paperwork.. Why yall even wanted me to begin with is confusing. Maybe it had something to do with working the polls. Anyway, I have always voted for a Republican president. Yall know what people like me look for in a candidate. If you run the right guy I'll vote for him , if not I won't.
The funny thing is, is that as frustrated as I get with GB about the border and not cleaning house after he was given a Republican S/C, I probably have been prouder and supported him better than a lot of Republicans here have. I will continue to pray for him .

Nice sentiments...
You don't need to join a party. They often change, and some jurisdictions are so laden with democrats that you hardly ever vote in local elections...
There are advantages to being a independent.
To: Cold Heat
True. Just one comment about the democrats. I do vote for them in local elections. If only two are running I usually study and pick the best of the worst:')

I hope not. Here's another one.
To: muawiyah
Gee whiz, I'm talking about killing people ~ hardly the same as a home breakin.Actually you were all over the map from tax evasion to federal jurisdiction over D.C. The fact still is, even murder is consitutionally a matter of state jurisdiction (when it happens inside a state), not federal jurisdiction.
And no, I'm not talking about when a federal official gets murdered, in case you're going to start playing that angle. That's a different matter.

About murdering federal employees ~ it doesn't have to be done on a federal registration for the federales to get real interested real fast so don't press your luck.

...If Frist had been the fighting Conservative we all thought/hoped he was, he would be wildly popular. He chose the milquetoast route, so he gets lukewarm support... Yes! I agree completely... I remember the moment, just what, six months ago? just prior to the nuclear option discussions and the attack of the 7 RENEGADES :) ,I wrote him an email in which I said "Dear Senator, your presidency aspirations are in your hands, there are rumors that you don't have what it "fight" inside you for today's politics so this is your chance, shows us you are the one, etc, etc,"
But I am afraid he just wimped out miserably. I still admire him as a person and as the fantastic surgeon he is... but as our "leader"(president) he blew it big time. Actually I think he is wasting his mission in politics, he should be practicing medicine, and he is good one too. I wish him in the best in his private life.

...You know, Arlen Specter is the kind of guy that ALMOST makes one root for cancer, (severe sarcasm alert! Read the word in caps before going beserk)... LOL!
I know what you mean!... when I hear him... I say to myself, and 'this' is one of us?... with friends like that who needs enemies!
Oh, and now I remember another point (on another post on why Frist will not be president...) where Frist disappointed me as well. He let this jackass off the hook but letting him keep his chair in the committee.

...Can we agree that most posters were reasonable, some weren't, it's over, now let's go kick some socialist ass?...Yes, I agree with you... boy I tell you, the SUSPENSE is killing me :) - Politics is better than sports!... The next nominee is SO IMPORTANT, it will tell us who Bush really is. We will finally know what he really thinks of us his most faithful supporters. Yes, we would not mind a QUALITY WOMAN, but if she is not avilable, let's get the BEST, even if he is a man :) [/sarcasm]
Besides, I have this feeling that there will be another vacancy for the SC, three years is a long time...
