You're not alone in that, Howlin.
A whole lot of us who have been activists are doing a lot of serious thinking about what this party has now done.
Acting like leftists might have been fun at the time, but the destruction of this good woman is going to take its toll on the Republican party AND the Conservative movement.
No I'm not and you know it
Yes, you are and have been doing so throughout this entire thread.
The Miers nomination was an anomaly and is unlikey to occur again. NONE of the potential nominees have been scared away by what happened to Harriet Miers, LOL! If anything was going to frighten away nominees it is the possibility of the kind of Liberal attacks backed by the MSM upon Bork and Clarence Thomas.
Fortunately, conservative nominees are strong enough to face any challenges the LEFT might throw their way.
We have been friends on here for a long time and I sincerely hope you don't mean this. If you are sincere then saying it is no better than the doom and gloomers who want to sit out an election and not vote because they didn't get their way.
You don't always win every battle and you have to learn when to pull back to fight another day. Shame some of you cannot see the forest for the trees on both sides. Threatening not to support the GOP in 2006 and 2008? Give me a break!
There are pitfalls: There will be an anticipation when the term comes up. Each presidential term will have at least two nominations. But I think it's better than the alternative.
It's only morning in America because we have a Godly President.
Certainly not because a bunch of mouthy pencil pushers lost emotional control.
You are so right -- this was all about a candidate that we knew very little about and what we did find out especially this week was not to our liking. I don't think she was thoroughly vetted either.
Sometimes it seems that way...
Exactly right. Good post.
It will help if in the next few weeks he comes up with a credible nominee for the most important nomination he will make in his life.
Exactly.
I think a lot of it around here is unwarranted.
She deserved to have her own voice heard.
This is not the kind of party that I have always been proud to be a part of. Howlin's not the only one reconsidering participating in a party that takes part in this kind of lynching.
Miguel Estrada might disagree with you.
Do you honestly believe the judges were not a big deal for the Evangelicals in the last few elections?
Are you then saying that if you see someone about to step off the curb into traffic who is going to be hit by a car, we should all stand by and watch rather than short circuit "the process"? Do we not have an obligation to speak up when someone is running headlong at a brick wall? When they are making a huge mistake? Or would that then be denying them their right to get hit by a car?
I'll ask again. Are we a tiny, powerless minority, or did we deny her her "right"? Which is it?
Please do not lecture me on what I can and cannot do; I'm sick to death of the backbiting and the out and out lying.
I belonged to a party that was AGAINST judicial activism, but I have lately learned that as long as it is a cause that "we" want, it's fine.
Not for me.
"The party" didn't force Miers to withdraw; the fringers with the megaphones did.
They are no more representative of the party than Arlen Specter is.
It is time that we made up our minds to get over this Miers debacle. Let's support the next nominee.
The unappeaseables will do what they always do, which is move on to another policy of Bush's that they can bitch about, and commence firing.
This has been going on for the seven years I've been here, and it will continue.
If you want to get back at somebody, cancel your National Review and Weekly Standard subscriptions, and write to the editors and tell them why.
Drop all the postage-paid reply cards in the middle of your magazines in the mailbox, content in knowing that it'll cost Kristol and Lowry $.37 for every one of them.
Speaking of Coulter, here's a little something to bookmark:
**Responding to Lauer's observation about W's myriad problems and sagging polls, Ann observed: "he's made one mistake - Harriet Miers. He just has to eliminate that mistake and everything will be fine." ***

Let's see how long it takes her to put the lie to that.
