"I have made it very clear from the beginning, and have never said otherwise, that the problem I had was with people who were vicious, and not with people who questioned her qualifications."So many people replied on the Miers threads, it was impossible to focus on all or many of the comments of any one particular poster.

Until yesterday, I was in the wait-and-see camp, but you were the only "Anti" who didn't make me feel like an "enemy". Thank you. That means alot to me. One of these days, the feeling of "doormat" will wear off, and I'll be back at it, strong as ever. ;-)
Male, FWIW.

The ambitious McCain will try to lead a splinter movement
he's already doing that...with the DNC party he's so unwilling to just commit to... Rhino that he is.

In my belief, yes, ultimately, we all have the same GodWhat do you find problematic about this statement?

I don't think it's possible to get anyone to the right of John Roberts confirmed Let's see. 78 votes. Hmmm .... we could lose 25 votes and still get a majority, or 20 votes and still have 58 in favor and probably 2 to override a filibuster.
Why do you post such alarmist nonsense?

Sorry, we all have to deal with the behavior of our allies. Only a very few on each side went overboard. The main topic was actually if Miers was the right pick.
In any event, it's not like Miers and Bush read the over the top posts on FR and then got their feelings hurt.
Let's deal with issues rather than trying to dredge up drama.

and if you get a female candidate who comes off as a "lady" - preferably one with a husband and children - savaging her will be very unpalatable. Hell, she can go on Oprah to introduce herself to the american people.
To: ohioWfan
As a Christian, I was offended by some of the posts against her that I perceived as mocking her faith.
Most of the people opposing the Miers nomination were also Christians. I saw no one who mocked her faith and would have been sensitive to it if I saw it myself.

Hindus have the same god(s)as christians?
If you mean that God is God no matter what, I agree.
If you're saying that Shiva and Mohammed and Gaia are God, I don't agree.
To: Siena Dreaming
Buddhist, yes, but I'm only in it for the epistemology, I'm also an atheist. Buddhists believe in nothing... but they believe precisely in nothing, a difficult thing for a Westerner to do. That is why a Zen master will tell you he's "nothing special." Buddhist liberation is like a limit in calculus, you can approach it infinitely, but you can never get there unless something breaks in your frame of reference. Sort of like the "Hotel California," don't ya think?
Or don't ya?

I think this woman was treated unfairly from the beginning. I can't say whether she would have made a good Supreme Court Justice because I didn't know a whole lot about her Maybe if you were paying attention you would have known more and would have joined with those people who were being "unfair" by examining her record, or lack of one, and finding it wanting.
You can't just say "I'm ignorant and other people who weren't ignorant were wrong even though I don't know much about the situation."

I appreciate that fact, but I did see it, and it was offensive.
I haven't seen that aspect of FR before (other than on the Crevo threads where Christians are regularly mocked as being stupid by a few).........and I seriously considered leaving the forum.

Because I said "to the RIGHT" of Roberts.
Because there are 11 Rinos on record opposing the nuclear option.

I swore I wouldn't get into the religious philosphical discussions, but I'll inject one small thing. Dora, correct me if I'm wrong.
God is what He is no matter what we believe about Him.
This is somewhat different from saying that Jesus is God, and so is Krishna, and so is Allah, and He is personal, and He is an impersonal "force", and there is One God, and there are millions of Gods - and ALL of that is true. This is Universalism and totally illogical and unworkable.
But God is what He is no matter what we believe about Him.

It's the left that has made all SCOTUS nominations into a neverending abortion-affirmative action debate. cake, while we disagreed on Miers, I could not agree more with your above statement. I keep hoping that I live long enough to see abortion/affirmative action relegated to a proper position in the debate. I keep hoping to see our country mature beyond a 1980s debate.
Serious people can certainly disagree on topics; however, now that Miers is no longer a nominee, I sincerely hope that all of us will re-focus our efforts on the things that matter and unite behind our common goals.
