His record with court appointees is stellar.
I am praying that he finds the right person for this much needed position on the SC.

I only hope the person who gets confirmed is strongly supported by those who opposed Miers, and that this person will support R.v.W. It would be the ultimate irony. And it's my prayer that the next nominee is QUALIFIED to sit on SCOTUS, has proven conservative ideologies, does NOT support Roe v. Wade and does NOT look to European law to make their decisions.

I'll ping you whenever anyone says anything similar about Ted Kennedy, Hilliary Clinton or any other leftist Why?

Shouldn't we at least try? The democrats sure would.Well, they don't have the same vitriol to deal with. The question is, what happens if we lose?
The answer: The Democrats win and the party splits. Really splits. The ambitious McCain will try to lead a splinter movement.
Schumer is already stating that this happened because there wasn't enough consultation and, remember, Bush nominated someone they actually put on a list.

Thank you...for fear of bashing, I was trying to be safe with my last statement...but what you said is true.

Cboldt, I thought it was very funny when you started sarcastically using pro-Miers invectives. You have enough moral authority to get away with it. Then others emulated you, and it ceased to be funny.
Some of the language thrown at you was terrible, however. Until yesterday, I was in the wait-and-see camp, but you were the only "Anti" who didn't make me feel like an "enemy". You da man in my book. Unless, of course, you're a woman ;)
To: dorathexplorer
In my belief, yes, ultimately, we all have the same God I gathered that you believed this.

I thought you were talking about Bill Kristol as I was. I haven't discussed McCain on this thread.Oh, that's cute. Kristol is inexorably tied to McCain.

I have been addressing the issue from the beginning. I stayed away from most of the Miers threads because they were NOT about the issue.
That is......the need to get an originalist on the SC. It's the most important thing the President will do during his presidency outside of the war on terror.

His record with court appointees is stellar. But the supreme court nominee can overrule them all. It does no good to do 100 little things right and then get the big one wrong.
Also, we really don't know yet how good his appointee will be.
To: RushCrush
Any FReepers out there oppose JRB?I read this from a group of JRB haters, but it got me fired up. We could use 9 of her on the court.

Oh please. If anything, this will bolster his power for the rest of the term because the people that support him will continue to fight for him.
Of late, those people weren't doing that because they felt like they were kicked in the groin.
To: Cold Heat
I don't agree that she is a "Libertarian ideologue." She's an originalist, which is the reason she should be nominated.

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates. Your sour grapes comment just goes to show you Miers' T-Shirt crowd never understood what this was all about.
If Bush nominates a qualified true Conservative, that nominee will get 110% support.
Stop being bitter, realize that even President Bush realized he made a mistake, and get back on the bus.

I believe that God puts the right man in position at the right times. Look who he put in charge when 9/11 and all the hurricanes happened? A democrat would not have been able to handle it, not even close to the way Bush has.
Thy will be done.

Why focus on a few posters that went over the topic and ignore the actual issue at hand. Because that's who we have to deal with. Sorry, we all have to deal with the behavior of our allies.

I have been addressing the issue from the beginning. I stayed away from most of the Miers threads because they were NOT about the issue. That is......the need to get an originalist on the SC. I I can appreciate that. Most of the latter threads stayed pretty civil. The issue about going for a known quantity was the most discussed item. Things sometimes went south when we were told that Bush's personal relationship with her and her christianity made her a known quantity.

So now what do we do?
I certainly don't speak for all Evangelicals, but I do have strong credentials in their communities, and I can tell you how they think and feel. They are going to see the Borking of Miers as coming from the secular and Catholic conservatives. You can deny this all day long, but that is how they are going to see it. For years we worked with these groups to effect change. Now the Evangelicals will have a loss of confidence in working with these two groups to effect political change.
