I think we are going to get a firebrand.
I'd like to agree, but I don't see how the gang of 14 idiots allows a firebrand to get confirmed. |
Doesn't matter. The fight will be what matters.
To: chris1
Her judicial activism and willingness to legislate from the bench should get her through, and the fact she's got stellar credentials is just a huge bonus!

Are we forgetting the ping rule, ppl?

Few if any. The ones who were borderline mental over Miers (5-15 threads per day bashing her) were the same ones who also hated Roberts. They don't care who is nominated. All they care about is trying to attack President Bush. Your screed comes off as hyperventilating. I'm confident that nearly all posters who thought Miers was a disaster in the making are willing to throw full support behind a nominee who is a strict constructionist, using benchmarks such as Thomas, Scalia or Rhenquist to define the meaning of strict constructionist.
Painting your allies as bad intentioned will cause your opinion to become marginalized.

I still think my first opinion was right. Harriet Miers was a designated "spear catcher". Why? To divert flac from the real appointee.

President Bush, she chose to do the right thing, will you in a nomination this time? we want a nice conservative person, known by conservatives. This one come to mind, she may be a bit radical for the milquetoasts...

I wonder how many of our favorites declined when asked by President Bush and how many good ones are left to choose from.
Most people who followed that excuse thought it was a lie. Some sources in a position to know said that some of the conservative women jurists (people like JRB) were angry and said that the WH lied about them withdrawing.
To: misterrob
I just popped in to DU to see what was going on. They're all saying this was a setup all along with the plan to withdraw the nomination at the right time to take the focus away from "flamegate".

Yeah....but we'll never know if she would
rise to those standards if the naysayers had given her a chance.
I'm just plain disgusted!
I'm taking a long walk..........I need it!
I just can't stand to see little Bill Kristol's smirking face on the telly all day!
Krauthammer I'll forgive most anything....
..but Kristol, Bauer, et al, even Coulter too......I've had my gullet full of them for a while!

Arlen Spector wouldn't know a compromise from his behind. This is an opportunity to be forthright about conservatism. I recommend Debbie Schlussel for the court. She's a great pick and she can run rings around the Democratic Senators. If the President wants to make a bold move, I want him to pick her for the Court.

A lot of freepers here "just don't get it."I get it and I am sick and tired of the rancor and downright subversive activity in the Senate. And we pay these guys. I've told my husband, I would like to go down to the Senate and stand up in the gallery and tell them all to stop the posturing and do what they are paid to do with our tax money !!! I'd probabably get arrested.

Luttig! Luttig! Luttig! Luttig! Luttig! Luttig! I'd be real shocked if Pres. Bush appoints a man, I think he'll appoint another woman.

In this, she has proven the president right about her integrity.
She has done for the conservatives what they consider best for the country, and has not gone for personal gain.
