Looks like Charles Krauthammer nailed it. She's claiming the document fight as reason for withdrawl.

I hope she continues to provide the President with her best legal judgment as White House counsel. I'm sorry she was put through this in such a contentious manner but the bar has to be high for SCOTUS and the WH did not do her any favors.

Remember Goliad! Most of all, remember that those two losing battles led to San Jacinto, and of course, the REPUBLIC OF TEXAS. (come on, I can't pass up a hanging curve like that!)

If it takes losing a candidate or two to get the RIGHT candidate, then so be it.

In this case it truely wasn't about her evangelicalism. Maybe for some, but not most. That was her strongest selling point to me, but it just wasn't near enough.

Doesn't change the facts. We're righter than you.

Keep on posting Laz, you make my point with each one.

I would usually tell a rational person not to dig themselves a deeper hole.

But, IMO, you are not rational so why waste the resources.

"I have been defending the President for weeks from the folks who were against Miers but now that she withdrew we need to unite and stand behind our President. He needs us now more than ever."

No, he needs to do the right thing by putting forward an originalist nominee. Then we'll support him. Support is earned, not granted. I've given enough in time and money, as have many others.... Now it's time for him to show his best hand.

I think the floodgates are open to anyone now. We'll see, I guess.

For the greater good of the Country, not a man, not a party....but the future of this Country....we need the RIGHT person sitting on SCOTUS.

***...I didn't see the part about him being a Green Beret at the time***

Its easy to miss as not everyone picks up on what his tag line means or the "SpFc" after his name.

And again, maybe I'm being too deferential of what he was and did.

Don't you have a bed pan to empty or something?

This should tell everyone everything they need to know about Sinkspur...he is making fun of my grandmother who is in a nurshing home with alzheimers. He will now try to deny it. I never knew Priests made fun of the elderly.

He will then run to CP and talk about how most of you are a bunch of idiots and racists.

As long as you agree with the Thought Police here you have every right to say anything you want. So it is no surprise you would think that. Try disagreeing with the Thought Nazis and see if you have the same opinion. This has become as monolithic a place as DU. Does the words Bushbot or RINO mean anything to you. This lynch mob has been shameful with the level of the attacks on fellow Conservatives. Free and open discussion, what a joke!

First of all I was disagreeing with the thought Nazis in this instance, secondly I have no problem disagreeing with anybody if I think they are wrong, just look at my history. I do it without name calling, though RINO is a perfectly good description of left leaning country club republicans who never hold to any principle if they can vote with the left.

As for Bushbot I have always thought it a childish stupid name and roll my eyes every time I see it and think the person using it sounds like he can not argue the point. If there is somebody out there who never question anything Bush does then they make themselves look stupid.

You can not read beyond the few people name calling if you really think the discussion does not go in here.....As for free and open....this is a conservative forum...thank God that the libs and loonies and fanatic libertarians are shown the door, if I wanted any more of their lunacy I would turn on the tv.

The quagmire in Iraq

You're either a leftist or woefully ignorant.

Iraq is the most remarkably swift military and political success in human history.

If Bush nominates a real conservative this time the Dems are really going to feel the heat from their wacko base to filibuster.

We can only hope! That is exactly what I am after. It is high time we took these DimWits to the mat on this filibuster nonsense! I want to pin their shoulders to the floor so they can never do this again. It's time the Pubbies stood up and showed the American people they are not a bunch of pussies!  McCain and his traitors to the party need to be taught a lesson too as far as I'm concerned. What the Rinos did last time is unforgivable. I say kick 'em out of the party if they try this compromise BS again! We control the majority damn it! Why in the hell aren't our elected officials acting like it?!

I don't understand what W was thinking when he nominated Meirs. We control the House and the Senate. Why in the world are we pussyfooting around? I say let's cram it right down their throats! The DemonRats sure as hell would. If our Reps and Senators haven't noticed the DimWits sure as hell don't play by the Marquis of Queensbury Rules, and it is about time we give them some of their own medicine! I have a feeling the DemonRats are gonna be very, very sorry they didn't give Meirs a pass, they are sure as hell not going to like the next nominee! Hopefully W will take the gloves off after the Senate put his personal lawyer and friend through the wringer. I know if someone shows that kind of disrespect to one of my friends, I come out swinging!
