Folks, let’s be realistic here. Does it really matter if Libby or even Rove gets indicted? In the grand scheme of things, and taking their current roles into mind, they are small fish. The election ended close to a year ago. Rove was moved to a position that holds a title that indicates less authority than the Secretary of Commerce.
Then there is I. Scooter Libby. Did anyone honestly even know who the hell this guy was until Fitz and gang decided to question him? I recently asked a lady at work if she had ever heard of I. Scooter Libby. She replied, “Gesundheit”.
I’ll be honest; I had no clue who the chief of staff was for the Vice President. When I heard the name Scooter, I actually pictured some pencil neck geek in bottle rim glasses. Today I finally saw a picture of the guy, I was shocked, he was actually an astute looking gent.
Word is that Libby was ole buddy, ole pal with Mr. Rich of Pardongate fame. Then don’t let the door hit him on the way, I say. This may be a good chance for the Bush administration to rid the Executive Offices of a connection to Democrats.
With the Main Stream Media fools reaching a fevered pitch, I just thought it wise to put it all in some context. Rove is pretty much killing time these days. Any advice he has given lately has not gone over too well with many in the Republican base. The WH is taking a beating from its own lately.
We conservatives should not get sucked into this so hard. That is what folks like Chris Matthews want. I have come to realize that, short of an indictment of Bush, Republicans will still be one up on Democrats.
Let the Dems say, “we got your political advisor”. Republicans can reply with, “Big deal, we got your President…and a blue dress” And for anyone worried about voter turn out after all of this. Keep in mind that Clinton got re-elected. Voters will turn out no matter what. Especially in today’s partisan world.
In the end, Rove will still get any needed communication with GW through. Bet on it. And, if indicted, he will be free to mastermind some campaign strategies for the mid-terms.
Ole Fitz will go down as an over zealous prosecutor.
And as for I. Scooter Libby, who cares. He’ll end up fading back into the unknown. Which is just where a person who goes by the name “Scooter” belongs.
Relax folks. Bush is not going anywhere.

For them to be indicted, they'd have had to have told someone not cleared for that info. So far I dont think they have. Miller says she dooesnt know who told her. Cooper is a moonbat and doesnt know a thing really. So who was told what that was top secret? No one that I can see. But if you lie to a gran jury, you take your chances.

Don't you know that accusation of corruption proves guilt in the lib world view?
Well he did convict Ramsey Yusef and the Blind Shiek for their involvement in the bombing the WTC, he also convicted a couple of the bombers of either the US Cole or the African embassies. He's also indicted the Republican Governor of Illinois and much of Mayor Daily's organization in Chicago. My biggest concern for tomorrow is that he sees things more in black and white than Bush does.
Does it really matter?
Yes, because other people in the administration will have to waste time and energy preparing for possible testimony and covering their butts.
Yes, because it will further tarnish Bush's image.
Yes, because it will further demoralize the base.
Yes, because it will further reduce the president's already-meager clout on Capitol Hill.
Yes, because it will probably sap Bush's energy and confidence even more than it has been -- although it doesn't have to.

What can I say. 64 election was my freshman year in college. Voted for Nixon in 68. But after five years of intoctrination I was slightly less conservative. :-)
I'm afraid you are right about all this. From the beginning I think the entire focus has been the WH and nobody or nothing else.
It does matter because it's a matter of perception - perception by a majority of the American voting population that in their day to day lives merely absorbs "edges" and "glances" of the news.
This whole manufactured episode will matter in 2006 and 2008.

You are right. If I was a normal moron that got my news from E! or MTV, I would have already thought they were indicted and Bush was being impeached. Just like Delay's indictment makes him a slimeball to 65% of America. It won't even make the front page when a judge somewhere at some level chortles as he throws it from the courtroom. The thing the Repubs have to do is repeat over and over again that The CIA director talked to Cheney( which I hope is still legal in the US), then the VP talked to His Chief of Staff( which I hope is still legal in the US), and he may or may not have had a conversation with a reporter.
Now if Scooter never mentioned her name, no foul, If he didn't know she was undercover, no foul, if she wasn't undercover, what the hell is this all about anyway? This is all just a load of crap and the MSM believes the government is coming down.

Unfortunately if the indictments are on pheripheral issues like perjury, suborning perjury, obstruction, lying to an FBI agent, or some such side issue, the judge wont allow the kind of trial you are interested in. It will focus on did so and so lie, did so and so attempt to get someone else to lie, etc. Having a good reason to have taken the action that you lied about is no defense and will be shut down.
Also, discovery phase is really something that occurs in civil trials. In a criminal trial, the prosecutor has to turn over evidence against the defendent and anything they found that would exonerate him but there is no additional discovery other than what the lawyer is able to uncover on his own among willing witnesses. No one has to talk to him. Yeah they can subpoena the witness to testify but they have to show cause and again if it doesnt apply against the narrow issue of the indictment, the judge will not allow. I think you are overly optiimistic about turning this into a show trial.

I'm assuming that if there's a grand jury investigating the disclosure of an agent's name, then at one time she was an operative. If she was a covert operative, her status at the time her identity was revealed is immaterial. Our enemies could use this information to damage our human intelligence network by figuring out who had past dealings with her, even if it was years ago. As I mentioned earlier, it's not going to help our efforts to recruit foreign agents if those people think they might later be exposed, even indirectly, as may be the case here. Now, if she's been bragging about past exploits to her buddies then her clearance should be revoked and she should be kicked to the curb. However, Washington gossip is not nearly as reliable or as much of an attention getter as a high level source leaking information to the press. It's shameful really.

Thanks. Interesting article for sure. It raises more questions than it answers. I trust that the special prosecutor has all this info and will act accordingly in making his decision. I still feel this whole circus will damage our intelligence capabilities in the future as it is put out there for all (potential recruits) to see, not just those already involved in intelligence gathering.
