It really is outstanding! :-)
I just talked to my friends in Sunrise. They said it is awful. The condo building across the way from them, the roof blew completely off. An air conditioning unit blew off the roof of another building. A piece of roof fell onto his neighbors car. The pool is filled with chairs that were chained down but were uprooted. They lost power but still have phone service. I'll hear more later.
I'm surprised she made it over Florida and is still a 2!
My sister lives in Lake Placid FL. Does anyone have any word about how that area is faring?
They should have just tossed the pool furniture into the pool before the storm. Safest place for it, and they come out sparkling clean.
Thanks for the update.
WFTV's chief meteorologist Tom Terry here in Orlando said "the hurricane was a CAT 3 and then add the forward speed to that, which made it a Cat 4 for the people south of the storm! This is why they got hit so hard."
LMAO! Smack!
Showing the damage right now on http://www.local10.com/video/5154602/detail.html
Lake Placid is still getting storm weather. Should be improving very soon.
Speaking of smacking, smack that idiot Fox weather ego-boy for continually standing in the middle of the radar, blocking half of what we are trying to see. "Move your arse!"
That is not correct. The max sustained winds are just that - the max in the storm. It is more likely that Wilma was a Cat 3 in the southern eyewall and a borderline Cat1/Cat2 in the northern eyewall.
Because, if this theory was true, the Long Island Express, with 130mph sustained winds, would have actually been a Cat 5 with 190mph winds when the 60mph forward speed was added on. Instead, the 130 mph winds reflected the foward speed.
Yes, Smack him too for blocking our view.. And any news person who leads you on about something like the weather and then withholds the info as they say: "Coming up after this break".
I hope the best for those in Wilmas path.
Maybe this is the last one.
I the hurricane nerd on the weather channel, (the nearly bald guy with the too-long ties - Steve Lyons???) Say that foward speed of the hurricane is factored into the equation when they assign it a rating on the saffer-simpson scale.
Hilarious! And the best part was, the assistant helped Roker into the building and left the other dude to fend for himself.
Thank you kindly for answering me and pardon my lack of knowledge when it comes to the everglades. I will say a prayer that this storm passes quickly and all is safe.

...Wilma restrengthens to category 3 over the Gulf Stream...
At about 120 PM EDT...an Air Force reconnaissance aircraft reported that maximum sustained winds in Hurricane Wilma were near 115 mph...in a small region south of the center over the Atlantic Ocean and the extreme northwestern Bahamas.
A special advisory will be issued by approximately 230 PM EDT... primarily to revise the initial and forecast intensity.
Forecaster Knabb
Thanks for the info. We haven't had any contact since day before yesterday. She is well-prepared, and I'm not TOO worried. Just like to keep her prayed up...
Damn, but Wilma's rude.
Sunshine out here in Cent. FL. Nauti, thanks for all you do.
