My Dad said it would be out for awhile..
Clouds in the sky here N. of Orlando are moving very quickly through the sky and the wind is really gusting. The air feels like 40 out there!
It does look like it's quite possible they were still under construction. The Easternuswx thread wasn't very informative nor the supposed source, blogs.herald.com.
That cold is everywhere. We (NY, PA)have winter storm watches for tonight through Tues. night. Expecting up to 7 in. of snow. Not good as all the trees are waaaay behind in losing their leaves. All that heavy, really wet snow will destroy them.
She said she slept, woke up around 6, beelined for the shower so she'd be able to blowdry her hair. They still had power. She made a huge breakfast and the power started going on and off, then they lost power during breakfast.
But bottom line is everyone of hers is fine.
Someone was on WFOR-4 describing a very similar situation
Also, Captiva FD hunkered down with Sanibel FD overnight. They are out looking at damage on the islands now and flyovers to start soon. No reports in yet. They are waiting to hear from Judy Zimorra (Zimorma ?), Sanibel City Mgr, my brother-in-law's boss.
I spoke with my husband at 12:20 p.m.
He just spoke with his parents who live in Boca Raton and Dad said the winds were probably 100 m.p.h. Tiles are off their roof, their backyard fence is knocked down, their tree in the front yard is uprooted (forget what kind but sort of small). They are OK but it wasn't pleasant! They
are in their 70's.
They have no lights but they do have phone service. They are in the clear now. I still need to hear how my stepson in Tampa was/is faring. Then we have folks in Orlando too but my husband said at this time (12:50 p.m.) the storm is out in the Atlantic (??)
Geeez what a day.
Hope his stomach staples are still in place. (just kidding, that was mean of me, LOL).
CNN: Clewiston, FL - marina damage, flooding, lots of trailer homes flipped over, roof damage on other buildings. Locals think the storm must have strengthened as it passed over land (No, a hurricane does damage, doesn't have to be a Cat 3, 4, or 5. 'Just' 100 mph winds are still pretty bad and destructive where they hit.)
It's breezy down this way, for sure.
We lost our cable (and internet connection) for about a 1/2 hour.
But when I saw the Brighthouse bucket truck drive past, I knew we'd be up in no time, and Voila...we're reconnected.
Are you in Naples? (My beloved old home, more livable in the middle of a hurricane than liberal Seattle on a sunny day.)
Estimated that at least 3 million are without power.
If anyone has a video clip of that, post it here. Everyone in my office got a laugh about the canoe lady. Of course, if he hadn't lost all that weight, he wouldn't have needed to be held down. LOL
