Court issues warrant for DeLay, sets bail:
AP By William L. Watts
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and set his bail at $10,000 in a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges, the Associated Press reported. The issuance of the warrant is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin told the A.P. The lawyer said DeLay would make his first court appearance Friday morning. DeLay, who remains a member of Congress, relinquished his leadership post last month after being indicted on a charge of conspiring to violate state campaign finance laws. DeLay contends the charges are politically motivated and that he will be vindicated at trial.
Honestly, Earle and his thugs are fooling themselves if they believe this will have long-term benefits for their party. The "party of corruption" tactic won't work because no one beyond a minority of party faithful truly believes that the Left is....WITHOUT corruption.
The "party of corruption" approach only works if you are perceived as being without blemish. IMO, this ugly stunt will have little to no effect.
OTOH, Earle has apparently no idea what he has started.
If it's a misdemeanor, then DeLay is exempt from arrest per our Constitution (still the law of the land here, I suspect).
Re-badging the charge as a "felony" to circumvent the Constitution's prohibition on misdemeanor harassment of Congressmen is a travesty.

Roger that!!!
Ha. thx. i guess not. therefore, i should walk away with a $12mill book deal and speaking fees. LOL
Does this mean that DeLay refused to invoke his immunity during session?
I agree. so sick of these animals working us over. Tancredo for President in '08
I agree. And when he is, he should turn the mugshot to his advantage, using it in a TV commercial that emphasizes how politically motivated the indictment and arrest were and how the charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.
He should throw it right back in their face (appearing in person with a large copy of his mugshot plus a copy of the charges filed and dismissed) stating that false charges for public consumption are the ONLY way the Dems can have a prayer of beating Republicans because they are devoid of any ideas or philosophy that appeal to the broad public!
... during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same ...
He won't be detained for any more than booking, in any event. It's a routine move on a bogus charge, being staged for MSM consumption and propaganda purposes.
Right on Rose! You keep on keepin on!! I'm elevated by your RAGE!!!
That only applies to when they are actually on the House/Senate floor, i.e., "during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses>"
Delay has no immunity from a collection of charges that include a felony. His first filing however, seeks to have the Money Laundring count dismissed as the activities cited in the other charges under campaign laws of Texas are the same acts and the campaign laws should govern.
But, until them, the Democrat Prosecutor got his "felony" charge from the GJ as part of the indictment.
Earle had to jury-shop at least three if not four times in order to get a gj to indict. And I won't be so naieve as to think that some of these jurors aren't cronies of Earle's.
About the pardon, definitely not--that would create the appearance of guilt and Delay needs a chance to prove his innocence. About the prosecution of Earle, if it's possible, I'm all for it.
Bingo! We have the winner right here!!!!!!!!
""Most Americans have a good portion of their retirement dreams tied up in the equity of their home."
The reason why they booked DeLay is precisely BECAUSE the Republicans NEVER use the fully legitimate reasons to take the illegalities of the Dems to court.
Until some Republican understands the game we are going to have DeLays and Roves in "stocks" to give the Dems an advantage.
I think the fix is in, the elite Republicans are to hand it all back to the elite Dems again next go round.
Well, if the charges are bogus then we'll find that out quickly in the actual trial.
