WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and set his bail at $10,000 in a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges, the Associated Press reported. The issuance of the warrant is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin told the A.P. The lawyer said DeLay would make his first court appearance Friday morning. DeLay, who remains a member of Congress, relinquished his leadership post last month after being indicted on a charge of conspiring to violate state campaign finance laws. DeLay contends the charges are politically motivated and that he will be vindicated at trial.

I agree...but sadly I'm getting sick of fighting for a GOP that won't fight for itself. We have an administration that asked for leniency for a convicted Sandy Berger...while the Dems are trying to indict top GOPers for frivilous charges.

The Republican, Chuck Colson, went to jail for disseminating one FBI file to the press...while the Clinton's and their administration went free after possessing 900 FBI files. Heck, Ken Bacon did exactly what Colson did when he publicized Linda Tripps private records to the press...and yet, nothing was done, let alone said by our biased press.

The fact that the Clinton's walk free while people like Libby and Rove face possible indictments for doing nothing more than correcting the lies of Joe Wilson, disgusts me. Republicans better wake up, because I'm getting sick of them wanting to make peace while our enemies want to literally destroy them.

Don't be so sure ... the appeals process seldom addresses the actual facts of the case, only the laws involved, procedural errors, etc. At the risk of incurring "not another Terri post" wrath, look at Terri's case. Much was made about how many appeals rulings there were but NOT ONE of those appeals could touch the judge's decision on the facts. That is why the last minute legislation asked for a de novo review, to have another judge actually consider the facts of the case. There is a lot to learn from Terri's case about the court process and how it really does come down to the trial judge. If this judge is crafty and careful enough, it will be hard for Delay to get an appeal; the judge woiuld have to commit an error, misinterpret the underlying statute, etc.

Actually, this is all pay back in the liberals mind for Republicans winning the seat of the previous Democratic senate majority leader.

Its dirty politics and part of the national campaign to paint Republicans as "dirty rotten scoundrels" and the democrats in a better light.

The real failure will be for the Republican to stand up and publish the results in all media forms. Yes, even if we have to pay for 1/2 page ads in the left wing newspapers.

It would also be a shame to not hold the DA accountable for the obviously politically motivated charges that have occurred. If there is some law protecting him in Texas, maybe an amendment should be in place to at least allow legal recourse if the DA knowingly does some action that he/she knows has no evidence or is treading on very thin case.

I beg to differ. Misdemeanor charges are frequently offered in felony plea bargainings. That's the essence of "pleading to a lesser charge."

I too think this case is politically motivated, but it should play out. Delay should be exonerated in a court of law, not because he's got a Congressional "Get Out of Jail Free" card (unless you're willing to give Dims the same pass).

Grand juries typically do what the prosecutor advises them to do. At least they do in New Jersey and I would imagine elsewhere as well.

The jury selection process is also interesting.

You are making a slew of sailent points with your timely reply!!! I agree with everyone of them and in fact, was so embarrassed back in November '02 that I left the Party and re-registered "Decline To State" a Party preference!!!

I've loved the Republican Party and always vote a straight ticket, but I can no longer bear to watch them invaribly snatch defeat after defeat form the jaws of victory!!!
