Hugh Hewitt exposed, read this and weep (Redstate.org)

It's very interesting to go to RadioBlogger's july 2005 archives and read what Mr. Hewitt was saying about the SC back then. Here's a small sample. I'll put them all together, the perfect ingredients for a ** sandwich:

Hugh Hewitt on why federal judicial experience and a track record do matter:

You see, I've tried to explain to people about Judge Janice Rogers Brown, that she has not been a federal judge. And my concern over her and Priscilla Owen is, that federal judges just do different things than state judges. And I want to see a little bit from them, before you run as a conservative. I don't want to run blind. And I think she really hasn't done, for example, federalism issues, hasn't done federal pre-emption, hasn't interpreted the free exercise of the establishment clause, though there are Constitutional counterparts in California. That's my concern, Erwin. I just don't think they're reliable enough when it comes to understanding how they'll handle federal issues.

Hugh Hewitt on why age matters and why you don't want someone close to 60:

HH: You know, I had this argument with people earlier. I view every year as 70 votes. So when you trade from a Luttig or a Roberts at 50-51, or McConnell, or even a Miguel Estrada at 44, you're giving up seven hundred votes, seven hundred decisions. That's a lot of future influence for a president to give away to someone who he doesn't know who it's going to be.

and

Now let me close with Larry Thompson and Ted Olson, in the Washington Post write-up, as well as J. Harvey Wilkinson. They're all a little long in the tooth, really.

and now for the COUP DE GRACE. Hugh Hewitt on why Brilliance and Intellectual Greatness matter:

I want to pause for a moment, because you'll say great things about Luttig, Roberts and McConnell, as I have. There is an argument for brilliance that's got to be made here. And I don't know some of these judges. But those three I do, and they're brilliant. And brilliance matters, even if you're a dissent, because you've got to mold the law schools. You've got to mold the professions. You've got to look ahead. I think Bush needs to go for someone about whom there is no question of intellectual...the capacity for intellectual greatness.

Your Honor, Mr. Hewiit is GUILTY of fraud in his support for Miers. The evidence is clear and convincing, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

At the moment Bush is NOT the one doing the HURTING.

Your "talking points" list is FULL of distortions.

Let's have the hearings, I'm sure you'll find something there to BASH her with, and I'm sure you'll be looking.

This lynch mob mentality is doing no one any good.

There's been a deafening silence from the lefties, they're waiting their turn.

My post stands. I'm not familiar with the rest of your posting history, unlike some of the other's I'll do battle with over this issue, as well as many other issues. I guess time will tell.

Forget my personal posting history. Do you allow that a person could still be conservative in good standing if they support Bush on this nomination?

one year [sic] from now ... we hope then to look back and say another year has passed

This nominee cannot even conclude, with any definiteness that after one year a year will passed and she wants to join the ranks of Scalia and Roberts (and even Ginsburg, Kennedy, Souter and Stevens, for that matter). Even Thomas's worst detractors would not aver that he has this little common sense.

I do not see how hate and venom help anything either. I am thisclose to leaving this forum and never coming back. All that I have worked for my lifetime is burning in the fires of hatred. Not just here, but in the LSM press.

I don't care if someone opposes Miers, or is for her nomination. I just want the Constitution to be upheld so that she gets a hearing. I will not complain one way or the other, regardless of outcome.

Personal attacks, and slanderous bullshit are ruining what was the finest forum ever created.

I know that I am not alone in feeling this way. I have had too many emails sent to me stating the same. I hope things change, but honestly I do not think that they will. Some things said can never be unsaid.

It's time to dig in and fight 'em off! We've drawn line after line and dared them to cross it, and kept retreating to the next line. I say this line, this line, and draw no more. THIS is what the decades long fight has been all about. Blackbird.

I work in academia I know how the "you're not smart" game is played.

Show me one speech of hers, or one piece of writing, that displays intellectual firepower.

As for Justice Thomas, at the time of his nomination, he had a track record of conservative judicial philosophy. With Miers, despite her relatively advanced age, we've got nothing.

You must feel foolish when you realize that I mean your intention is to discredit each who is not on the list. Effectively, (there!) divide the base.

There needs to be a reason to support the nomination. Toss out any feelings for or against President Bush. Is this a good nomination? Is it good for the party? Did it unite us in strength against the RATs?

What is this - I don't want to be in the party of chickens. Plus, I can't lay eggs. Well, once in awhile, but not often.

Did you catch the thread last night where a FREEPER to go unnamed (as I suspect he was drinking and doesn't need more embarassment than he already subjected himself to last night) was repeatedly accusing miers-skeptics of 'treason?' I've been called a lot of names, some with good cause, but last night on FR was the first time I've ever been called a traitor.

Consider yourself lucky if you've never been called a traitor on this site. There is a cabal e-thugs here who call everyone a traitor if you don't fall into lockstep with them 100% of the time.

are you in RI?

No, Ohio

Bush is supporting chaffee over laffey who is more conservative.

Not only that, which isn't suprising, the RNC is running attack ads against Chafee's Republican opponent. The ad, if you haven't seen it, is over at NRSC.org and it demonizes oil, oil drilling, and stockbrokers.

Moving the goalposts once again, here is what you initially said:

Tsk, tsk, tsk, out to discredit every conservative you can. Really making hay while the sun shines, ain't y'?

I would like to see that as well but I fail to see how this justifies the pre-emptive attacks on her. She is not Al Qaeda. Like Rehnquist, she is not a former judge.

The text of her brilliance is the field of conservative judges that she vetted for the Bush administration that so many critics seem to prefer over her.

I also recognize from a political standpoint that the blockbuster writings you speak of would instantly disqualify her in the minds of 40+ dems and 10+ RINOs in the senate. I think you and all of her critics are well aware of this.

I don't have to make the political suicide pact to prove the intellectual superiority of conservatism. Someday explicitly conservative jurists will be easily confirmed to the Court-- not today.

And your eschewing the salient question.

***

Well, when someone gets accused of doing something they weren't doing, you tend to overlook the rest of the post, or at least I do.

He is supporting her even though he is running blind. We know nothing about her to convince us she is what they say she is except for GWB's word. We had a heck of a lot more info. about JRB.
