80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

"They likely pre-emptively asked Al Gonzales that he take their names off the list "

Like I said I don't believe this story but if true "shame on them". Many have given far more then an embarassing week or two in defense of our constitution, when called to defend the constitution you are scum if you decline.

Miguel Estrada's wife had a miscarriage during his two year ordeal, then died a few months later of an accidental overdose of sleeping pills.

Makes you wonder why ANYONE would want to go through the crap they know they'd get from the Democrats and their lapdogs in the media.

They will ask the same question over and over...in different ways, ...
---

Actually, it is worse than that, because if they can't find any dirt on you, then they will make it up. I suspect that's what Anita Hill was doing at Justice Thomas's hearings.

I don't really care. Them making up stupid embarrassing stories (or finding real ones) is little when it comes to doing a duty for your country. Some slander is pretty minor when you consider the sacrifice our soldiers make with their lives.

If anything, the more vitriolic they get, the better I'd feel about myself, knowing they were that scared of me.

My only concern would be any slander on my family.

Exactly.

And it gets collectively worse every single time.

Remember how this place was when Roberts was nominated?

That just shows what happens when you play identity politics. Shame on Bush for violating his own position on Affirmative Action

You do know that Ken Starr was considered for Thomas's seat, things may have been very different if GWHB hadn't played "identity politics" as you call it.

I don't get the connection between these paragraphs and the 80 percent number.

No doubt, from this source and other sources and common sense, some declined because they didn't want to grow through the vicious vitriolic process.

But Dobson was no way going to put numbers on that.

His 80 percent number was on the only thing that would be noncontroversial here - the proportion that was male.

It fine for our brave young men and women go die on far off battle fields but defending the Constitution here at home is just too much to ask huh?

Apparently it is, for those already serving in judicial positions who are much smarter and more attuned to what really goes on in these hearings than you are.

Nothing is more important than family, and many of these judges apparently did not want to subject their families to the ordeal.

I "think" I have regained my composure now...lol. Oh yes, you're so right -- that smarmy article about her alledged tap dance, would have reduced her to fodder for Letterman and Leno.

This process, which should be one of respect and integrity as well as thorough, has been reduced to such slime that I believe the number of willing persons is sorely limited.

Money quote from post #49:

He also made it clear that the President was looking for a certain kind of candidate, namely a woman to replace Justice O’Connor. And you can imagine what that did to the short list. That cut it

He wasn't talking about people dropping out here---he was talking about people getting cut because of their interfemoral equipment. Nothing to do with wimpery.

You don't even know who they remaining names were

Actually, the remaining names don't matter. The list should have been expanded until they found someone who was not Miers.

This is the result of a lack of imagination.
What about a Senator such as Rick Santorum or John Cornyn?
The Senate would most certainly approve one of their own.

The only thing standing in the way of nominating one of these superior candidates is their gender.
This exposes just how destructive identity politics are.
Bush should have never even entertained it.

This is where Bush really "blinked".
He allowed himself to get cowed into the very thing he claims he opposes. But if Miers was advising him on choosing herself then it makes sense, because it is reported she supports Affirmative Action.

I wish I could remember, but I read it some place that a White House source said that they did not want to nominate Janice Rogers Brown because they were afraid she would attack the Senators. They were afraid she would not be submissive and that she just might fire back at idiots like Kennedy, Biden and maybe even Specter. Does anyone else remember reading this?

This is further evidence that those on the inside knew that the DemonRATs were bruising for a knock out drag out fight. Not only would the battle put a prospective elder of the court through a "high-tech lynching", but it would sour the American people at a time when we need to pull together.

Reality check: We do have other irons in the fire which needs everyone working together.

Miss Miers is the right stuff for the right time. She will, with the charm of her decent character, pull the nation behind her.

I lift my champaign glass in a toast to the conservative cause. We will win the day with Miss Miers who will truly become the Peoples' Justice on the Bench. She will ensure that the Constitution will protect liberty for our grandchildren's grandchildren. President Bush is willing to sacrifice it all inorder to give this nominee as his gift to the future of freedom. We owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
