In a just-completed interview on Fox News, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol made no effort to sugar coat his criticism of President Bush's selection of Harriet Miers as his Supreme Court nominee.
Among Kristol's comments:
There is no way to say she is the best-qualified.
It really looks like W, faced with pressure and criticism, "flinched."
This is an insult to the well-qualified conserative women W has appointed to the federal bench.
W could have appointed Miers to a federal judgeship before but didn't do so. Could reflect his views on her qualifications up till now.
He's spoken with a number of leading conservatives already this morning and they are disappointed.
Kristol stated more than once that he was surprised by the pick and was obviously disappointed, to the point of seeming almost angry.
Posters here will defend Bush to the last drop of kool aid.
Instead of realizing that the future of the U.S court decisions rested on a STRONG nominee.
This close friend of Bush is not the conservative we were owed.
To those who think Bush made a conservative pick in this choice better think again.
"This is what happens when you vote Republican to try to change the courts -- you get Roberts and Miers, not the kind of strict constructionist justices we need."

The republicians including Bush still don't seem to understand that they control all three branches of Government.
I agree. Luttig for the SCOTUS!
Some men and women just give themselves over to evil. O'Conner seems to flip flop, as evidenced by the poor sodomy ruling.
Truly amazing! We have not had a hearing yet and all the pundits have it all figured. Me,I'll wait for the hearings and hope some factual information comes out.
I've wondered why that isn't considered an impeachable offense--it certainly violated his oath of office.
But, I do know something about logical reasoning. If you start with an untrue set of assumptions, you're going to get the untrue, illogical conclusions that follow.
The absurdity we're starting with here is the assumption that someone can both be a globalist and support conservative US values at home....the two concepts are in themselves contradictory.
I don't buy it. People don't lose energy when they win.
That is except in the case of his father and all his friends.
Plus ...
a pick made from a position of weakness, as Rush said
Bush crony
not qualified
Stealth nominee
demoralizing to the whole conservative base
... NOT going to bring out the base in '06 and '08
If GW wanted EASY he should have picked another job.
And? So? Coulter went hillary like ballistic over Roberts. One had to dodge the ashtrays reading her spitefulness towards Roberts.
BFD. Malkin hates President Bush and everything he does and Coulter spewed so much venom toward Roberts that it created a haz-mat emergency.
We pause this thread for an Activist message. Avoid your next Brownie moment! The House has passed HR 3132 The Child Saftey Act, which unfortunately had a late amendment by Rep. Conyers (D) that is a Hate Crimes bill. Call your Senator on the phone. HR 3132 is not yet scheduled for discussion in the Senate, but don't let them sneak it past us because we're not vigilant.
Here are related threads on FR.

RE: The five justices who voted for the eminent domain case are still on the Court.
You may be happily surprised how the reasoning of Chief Justice Roberts may alter the thinking of one of those Justices.
So now it is "men and women"
But O'Conner didn't vote for the private property insanity.
By the 06 vote, many on this thread will know whether President Bush was RIGHT or wrong. Then act accordingly.
And if he is right and these two judges are closet convervatives, what will you do then?
