It is clear that Bush did NOT consult with his conservative base on this pick... or if he did he just flipped them the finger.

Is this Bush's way of partially getting back at all the criticism of Gonzalez from the right back in the summer before Roberts was picked?? As if to say: you guys kept me from picking one good friend then, but you are not gonna keep me from picking another good friend this time?

And yes, that would mean he values personal loyalty over loyalty to his base. No surprise there.

I think you have your threads mixed up. I was just reading the Today Show ping and they were talking about Katie Couric who donated to the DNC and AlGore...at the same time they were discussing this nomine having been picked..You got confused...

Bush is also dishonest.

He lied to the voters about the type of Supreme Court Justice he would appoint.

"In 1988."

However, with the exception of Bush, it appears she contributed only to pro-aborters.

Kay Baily Hutchison is pro-choice, as well.

I am extremely disappointed.

Fox & Friends' "Supreme Court expert" said the same thing - that she is pro-choice. We'll see, I guess.

If she is indeed the pick and sails through, It will be real fun to come back to this thread when she turns out to be in the Scalia/Thomas mold

This thread will be a historical hoot no matter how this nomination unfolds. ;-)

I trust Ann Coulter's take on Roberts and I can't wait to hear what she has to say about this one.

BTW, what is Ann's take on Roberts? I recently read that the Constitution Party opposed the nomination of Roberts for his publicly stating that he recognizes our Constitutional democracy contrary to the fact that we have a constitutional republic, thus demonstrating his lack of ability to judge according to the United Sates Constitution. There were several other factors, but I was just wondering how Ann sees Roberts.

I'm not happy with this. Just watch the Dems, if they don't raise a fuss then Bush has made a mistake, as I suspect on my own he already has. Maybe it's a head fake, throw her to the wolves and then nominate JRB! Dreaming

***

I just heard on Fox that the Dems & Repubs suggested her. Does that tell you anything???

If she's the one, I have a problem with her association with the Tx. lotto comm. I'm pretty sure the lotto has been a major scam as far as how the proceeds were used. It was suppose to benefit education, however the money never seems to be there.

Women don't have to be but it is the feminist ideal to be encumbered by a husband and children. If she had a child (and didn't put it in a day care) she may not be a SC nominee today but a 'plain old housewife'. I can't tell you how many times career women have pulled me aside and asked me what I'm going to do about my education after I get married.

The President has selected a fine legal scholar this time.

Alex, from Fargo, North Dakota writes: Could you explain how Barney plays horseshoes?

Harriet Miers: The President throws the horseshoes to Barney, and Barney runs after them. Metal horseshoes are too heavy for Barney to lift, so he doesn't carry them around. Instead he moves them around with his nose. He has figured out pretty quickly how to get under the horseshoe enough to flip it over. As you know, the President loves horsing around with Barney.
