No, you misunderstand my comments... Not unsurprising.
I think Priests should be allowed to marry and those who chose not to wouldn't be able to say, "that's because I am so holy." People will then be able to draw their own conclusions-- for good or ill.

They're all confirmable. There is no one who ISN'T confirmable. Some nominees would take a lot more pain to get in, but we're all very grateful to have Justice Thomas on the bench, aren't we?
Maybe we should have avoided the fight and gone with another New England "hearsay conservative" like Souter instead of subjecting our nation to a difficult hearing over Clarence Thomas.

I have never voted Democrat, will never vote democrat, but have complete faith in President George W Bush. I know he chose Miers for reasons people on FR and talk show hosts will not agree with. I have been a W supporter from early on in Midland days. He is a man I put my trust in, it is apparant that the knee jerkers are in a frenzy today. Laura Ingraham and Tony Snow included in that freezy.

I think one thing we can say about Miers is that GWB knows her personally and better than anyone on this board. In your question, she is #2 to GWB.

Miers is not a "good candidate" because they don't know what she thinks about abortion, or __________ or _______.
There are plenty of 'em who cling to the idea that the SCOTUS is going to outlaw abortion once we have a majority, and they can't stand not knowing right now if Miers is their "it" girl.
This is one thing that gives me pause. While I am far from a chicken little on the nomination (I am dissapointed but willing to learn more and hope for the best), I have to wonder why Bush has seemingly taken the "Easy" way out. This is either part of some great strategery (the ultimate poker face), or there is some issue coming up that the administration is getting ready to face, and they dont want any battle with the democrats at this time. Hmmmm....
That being said, actions such as Mrs. Bush's off-color jokes at that press club dinner or the Bush daughters attending a mock marriage of two male homosexuals are a tacit endorsement of the immorality rampant in this country. It is as much a sign of endorsement as wearing a MLB baseball cap or a college or NFL football jersey, or a bumper sticker or a campaign button.
Whatever President Bush's personal moral convictions, it is only human to be influenced by the opinions of his wife and daughters.
Two points about not nominating any of the women so often named, or the men for that matter, that Bush has managed to get onto various Federal benches -
1) They declined to submit to the abuse required to pass through the Judiciary Committee again.
2) President Bush sees equal/greater value in having these strong conservatives on the Appellate Courts, so instead of having to go through two more nominations to fill two slots, he only has to ask one person to change her life.

Well, she thanked her Mom during the announcement this morning. I'm guessing that means Mom is still alive and able to understand. Genetics are key in longevity. A 60 year old woman often has decades of full life ahead of her. A 60 year old man would be a little shakier, from an actuarial standpoint.

And that assertion is a fabrication to boot. She advocated teh ABA permit all its members to vote on the position. Miers didn't express a stance either way ont he poition itself, only that all the ABA members should be given an opportunity to vote on the position before the ABA adopted it.

I have another concern about her. I understand she is single and no children, is this true? If so could she be pro-homosexual, pro-gay mariage, and possibly pro-abortion? God I hope GW didn't sell us down the river like his daddy did. Amen.

Luttig is a name surely vetted with the gang of 14. Lots of the RINOs in that 7 are up for re-election and they can't support Luttig and hold their seat for the GOP. Bush has no doubt been told this.
Remember, ALWAYS, the most important vote a Senator makes each session is for Majority Leader. The Majority Leader defines the agenda. If RINOs keep the Majority Leader GOP, then the Senate focuses on national security and matters that are less liberal than it would with a Dem Majority Leader. If Daschle were running the Senate, it would be non stop hearings into Plamegate and Yellowcake.
This nominee has been judged to be the rightward most candidate who is confirmable. That's pretty much the bottom line. In a different world maybe Luttig would be confirmable. But that's not this world. The world is not what we'd like it to be. It never is and never will be.
Well, Dad is dead as a doornail...so you do the math. It's a crapshoot. She sure doesn't look vigorous.
