Hmmm... interesting. On Sunday morning, Andrew Card said that Bush was still undecided. So, the decision was made in the past 24 hrs. Hopefully it's after a long careful evaluation and consideration.

Let's just make all their heads explode...

Tom Delay!

...or should we save him for 1st or 2nd on the '08 ticket?

MSM: The timing is very suspicious, given the President's low ratings, the legal troubles of Tom DeLay and Bill Frist, which are splitting the Republican Party, and the many problems in Iraq. Oh, and did we say gas prices are high?

Good - first thing in the morning. I'm looking forward to hearing the name of the nominee.

Brown, Owen, Garza, Jones, or Luttig would make my day!

Almost anyone else would make me nervous...

At least with the announcement this early this pundits can't spend all day deciding they have figured out who it is...

Although that was rather comical with Clement last time around...

New York Times already has its lead:

"In a shocking display of hubris, the White House chose what many experts believe to be the worst possible candidate for the Supreme Court Vacancy. [Fill in candidate's ame when we found out who it is] was announced this morning at 8 AM, sending shockwaves of disappointment. "I can't believe the President couldn't come up with anyone better" said one White House insider."

Good way to start the week. Any time President Bush makes an important move the 'rats come unhinged. The leadership vs. whine, moan complain dichotomy will be in full view again.

This timing makes sense. Bush is going to be at the court today for their ceremony welcoming Roberts on the first day of the session. He obviously wants the pick revealed before that event, and the earlier he does it, the more it will have sunk in by the time of the ceremony.

The word yesterday was that the President would be at the Supreme Court this AM for the installation of Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts.

Why would he [the President] take anything away from that ceremony by holding a press briefing the nominee before that?

The dems will scream no matter who President Bush picks. They already decided to raise a stink no matter what he does.

I hope this turns out to be White House disinformation, and that JRB is the nominee.

Not making any judgement, but I wonder if her temperament fits the mold of Carly Fiorina. That is, whether she might be the "legal-profession equivalent" of the business power-broker.

Oh well, if the choice has some basis in cronyism, I'm glad it wasn't Gonzales.
