What makes Meiers a bad pick?
When Rhenquist was appointed to the Court, he never had experience as a judge, according to CNN.
E.D. Hill cited Carl Cameron, not the AP, when announcing Miers as the pick.
There was a leak for Roberts about one hour before his July 19th announcement. So this Miers thing may be for real. After all, if no other nominee has arrived at the White House gate, then the nominee must be someone that works inside. I'm sure there are people watching where these people are physically located.
That's what I'd like to know.
So much for the report that the pick flew in last night. She was at the Red Mass yesterday.
You don't exhibit enough "rage" at the President already? You coulda fooled me.
Here's the deal. I'd swap the pathological Bush haters on here for Harriet Miers any day.
As long as the President can establish to me, a reasonable person, that she has the judicial philosophy he has promised his picks will have, I will have an..."ok, I'll just wait and see about her, Mr. President" attitude.
She is not my pick, just to be clear. But I am not the President. (Neither are the Bush haters, to my great relief and delight).
Harriet Miers.
Whoever it really turns out to be, I doubt it will be someone to make most of us happy. GWB isn't all that easy to anticipate. He likes to spring his little surprises.
She has NO JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE
President Bush on November 17 named Harriet Miers as White House counsel, a position she will hold upon the Senate confirmation of Alberto Gonzales -- current White House counsel -- as U.S. Attorney General.
Most recently, Miers served as Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary. Prior to that, she was Co-Managing Partner at Locke Liddell & Sapp, LLP. Previously, she was President of Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell, where she worked from 1972 until 1999. From 1995 until 2000, she was chair of the Texas Lottery Commission. In 1992, Harriet became the first woman president of the Texas State Bar, and in 1985 she became the first woman president of the Dallas Bar Association. She also served as a Member-At-Large on the Dallas City Council. Harriet received both her undergraduate and law degrees from Southern Methodist University.
Well, I guess GWB doesn't need to make the announcement, it's already been leaked.
I contend that such experience is not necessary, except for the dems who want some written opinions to go by (which we would probably like as well, for the comfort factor).
And this is bad why..? :)
Good!
It's amazing to me how so many people claim to be experts on the judiciary. I have NO idea who would be a good pick. I am pretty sure President Bush isn't going to tap the ACLU for a judge, so I think I will just go along with his judgement.
Miers donated to Lloyd Bentsen in 1987, and Al Gore and the DNC in 1988. Since then, all GOP.

She's a WILD CARD and this smacks of cronyism.
Neither did William Rehnquist have judicial experience, if you mean being a judge. Have you got that, or can you get that through your hysterical, knee-jerk, Bush-bashing head?
Good, now why should this be deemed a negative rather than a potential, and probable, positive?
Or the 9th Circus :)
Neither does Ann Coulter, and I can't count on both hands the times I have seen her name bantied around.
