New York Times already has its lead:
"In a shocking display of hubris, the White House chose what many experts believe to be the worst possible candidate for the Supreme Court Vacancy. [Fill in candidate's ame when we found out who it is] was announced this morning at 8 AM, sending shockwaves of disappointment. "I can't believe the President couldn't come up with anyone better" said one White House insider."

Good way to start the week. Any time President Bush makes an important move the 'rats come unhinged. The leadership vs. whine, moan complain dichotomy will be in full view again.

MSM: Bill Frist, awash in scandal and Tom DeLay is fighting to save his political career that's going up in flames.

This timing makes sense. Bush is going to be at the court today for their ceremony welcoming Roberts on the first day of the session. He obviously wants the pick revealed before that event, and the earlier he does it, the more it will have sunk in by the time of the ceremony.
Can't wait to see what DU has to say after the announcement.
All I know is the names Dick Cheney, Carl Rove, and Haliburton will pop up.

Bill Bennett just announced this as news no his show. So we've got just over one hour to place our bets.

The word yesterday was that the President would be at the Supreme Court this AM for the installation of Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts.
Why would he [the President] take anything away from that ceremony by holding a press briefing the nominee before that?

And as others have noted, this will suck up the political news reporting for the whole week, as the new nominee is dissected in every possible way.

Let's just make all their heads explode...
Tom Delay!
Ok, then make it Ann Coulter or Laura Ingrham for SC Justice

I did not see Andy Card yesterday but I think he might have been fibbing a bit if he said the Pres had not made up his mind yet.

MSM: The timing is very suspicious, given the President's low ratings, the legal troubles of Tom DeLay and Bill Frist, which are splitting the Republican Party, and the many problems in Iraq. Oh, and did we say gas prices are high
Note to MSM, actually have your guys win an election, then we may take your whining seriously. Until then GW Bush is Pres until Jan 2009 and all you MSMers are STILL irrelevent.

There was a pic posted somewhere yesterday of Andrew Card talking to Harriet Miers(sp) on the WH lawn before the Red Mass....not that that means anything...

Speaking of the MSM, I've noticed an annoying trend, first off, FNC overuse and abuse of the split screen, and Wolf Blitzer and his insipid videowall.

Doesn't mean much since she is Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the White House. But if she *is* his choice, he should be repelled with all the rage we can muster among us. Miers would be a horrible choice.
