The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
If true, this is probably the main reason why coverage is lacking. There's an ongoing investigation into something more than just a suicide, and there's no sense in spooking anyone else involved.
"That alone tells us it isn't a regular suicide."
I suggest you read the other 3,000 or so posts here and some more regarding local coverage coming out of Oklahoma tonight. This was no "regular suicide" - no by a long shot.
.>>> He destroyed the teak park bench he was sitting on, and he was "gone from the waist up" according to a cop I talked to, who was one of the first on scene. He suggested something the size of a ziplock baggie. (about the 1-2 kilos I suggested yesterday) No shattered pavement, no stripped bark or leaves from the tree about 20 feet away, and no shrapnel damage to the cast-aluminum lamp post about the same distance on the opposite side.<<<
So what kind of damage would a bomb that size do INSIDE a bus??
SORRY!!!! I mis-read your statement and thought you suggested otherwise...
.
That's what I was thinking as well -- don't appreciate being padlocked in either.
BTW, what you posted up the thread is essentially what I was told today that the local media cannot get anyone to go on the record confirming but they have that same info.
Someone is leaking to get this story out. Channel 4 reported the FBI if very tightlipped and won't confirm anything. The girl reporting did not seem very happy tonight with reporting about the FBI being tightlipped.
I've been following this thread since it was started, and posted a couple of lame attempts at humor to alleviate the tension. Believe me, I don't believe it was a suicide, regular or otherwise, for one instant. I had to restrain myself several times from replying to the few people who seemed intent on convincing everyone nothing unusual happened, such as hoboken109.
---Moussouri was a student at the flight school and had an OU health club card. Don't forget Nicholas Berg was at OU for at least a semester and went to Iraq and was beheaded. All connected to the "nice" Islamic Center on Lindsey across from the Parkview Apartments. I have wanted an investigation of that place since 9-11, but it would not be PC to do so. ---
Then there was that Tolin woman, found hanging in her Parkview apartment in March. The last news release I saw on that said she died due to hanging but it wasn't decided if it was a suicide or homocide. She was Jewish by the way.
Does anyone know more about her case?
When I saw the sentence that benches were being replaced by OU workers all I could think of is the old story.
A man driving along accidently hits a cat. Saddened and feeling very remorseful I looks at the cats tag and goes to the owner's house. " M'am "he says to the woman who answers the door. "I am very sorry and it was an accident but I hit your cat. I feel just awful and would like to replace it" The woman looks somewhat skeptically and answers " I suppose that is only fair but how are you at chasing mice?"
Now on to other matters. Any new information? Is the FBI still in charge? Hope of course that you and yours are safe and well.
Then they showed how we were padlocked in the stadium after this happened. These were huge padlocks. What if more bombs were in the stadium -- did the numbskulls that did that ever consider that possibility?
If exit gates were padlocked that was a very serious Life Safety Code violation. Someone was not thinking.
Damage similar to the London subway bombings.
I'm really sorry laz... I restrained from "knee-jerking" on posts like hoboken's and I'm really sorry I did so to you, especially since I mis-read what you posted. I've since taken a short break, had a bite to eat, and sat outside for a bit. (o:
Interesting question, penelopsire. Maybe it's time to do a timeline on the suspect. Got time?
What was with those folks saying nothing unusual happened? I couldn't figure it out. Maybe from OU Administration trying to peddle the depressed story that is not being taken seriously.
Channel 5 -- expert at Terrorism Center said not an act of terrorism. OU not changing any procedures at games. Then says they might make a new announcement at a press conference on Wednesday. Talking to two kids who took videos of the scene.
Now reporting the roommate will not speak to them.
This is a whitewash story compared to earlier this evening. Showing pictures now of the kid's picture with the beard and his father is talking. He left no suicide note behind. His Dad is weird.
Speculation he is a terrorist? -- Father said a terrorist tries to scare other people but no one was around when Joel did this. Weird statements.
Hydrogen peroxide used to make the bomb according to FBI. Parents home was searched.
Channel 5 completely different then at 5:00 and the people reporting are in more of a monotone now. Unlike Channel 4 they didn't report the FBI was tight lipped.
According to Channel 4 tonight FBI is still in charge and very tightlipped.
On Channel 5 after the game, we got the sanitized version of what happened is the best way I can describe it.
The lack of coverage is certainly unusual and atypical. It's the MSM's typical MO when dealing with suicides to dig for an explanation. Why did the kid off himself? Did he have tormentors who drove him over the edge? That sort of thing. But it seems they don't want to touch this case with a 10-foot pole. This restraint is not their typical behavior. At the very least, they could point out his interest in weapons and speculate he was a right-wing extremist, as they usually do. But they haven't even done that.
Their silence speaks volumes.
Very strange--the sudden change in the content of the coverage by local media, as well as the demeanor of the reporters.
The father may be in shock, but it sure sounds like he didn't like the kid very much.
"Interesting question, penelopsire. Maybe it's time to do a timeline on the suspect. Got time?"
Got the time and interest, but not sure how we could find out what the kid was doing for a whole year while out of school? I am surprised the reporter that wrote this little tidbit did not ask. I sure as hell hope the FBI is asking where he was and checking any passports if you get my drift.
Based on everything I've read in this thread and elsewhere, a very serious FBI investigation must be happening now and the FBI is wisely keeping a tight lid on information from this investigation.
Subdued was the word I was looking for to describe the Channel 5 media reports I heard tonight. Quite a contrast to the news earlier this evening and last night.
