From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

They did not jam cell phones, I was at the game and heard/felt the blast. (It was impressive). I immediately called my wife to tell her I was OK and asked her to hawk Fox News and let me know what had just happened. So did many others in my section.

Something is odd. I think Boren is wordsmithing the whole incident, not wanting to let something out. Something like AQ or PA homicide bombers among us. It was very close to half time when many head out for a beer. An opportune time to inflict a lot of injury without having to get past security at the gates. Phi Kappa Mom's story supports the same line of thinking.

Hoboken, what are you doing? We've both been on this thread since last night when it was posted. I remember reading that report last night. Did you miss it?

"Islamic sensitivity" is going to get whole alot of us killed. News is for us to digest, as adults. No censorship please from a "protective" media. We know what they're protective of and what they're destructive of. We need to know specifically if Muslims are inside this country trying to kill us in large crowds. We need to know if they are here illegally, or home-grown. Need to know whether this was just an accident.

If they're not going to tell us, if they're going to spin a bombing death nearby a stadium of 84,000 people as a lone suicide, I can only assume the worst.

We have a lot of undocumented middle eastern types running around. Have you heard of Mousourri or his roommates that were here in the early 90's on student visas and stayed? Or how about the Berg connection to OU.

I don't know who was blown up but nothing would surprise me right now and I live here.

I wanted a roundup of undocumented middle easterners after Moussouri when I found out student visas are not checked routinely to see if they have expired or EVEN if they are in college, but who am I?

WOW ..thats a real stretch there.

If the information in the premise is true, it is not a stretch as all. It is a reasonable conclusion. There are several reasonable conclusions, but this is certainly one of them.

Why do you fear speculation, especially when it is reported as speculation or conjecture?

I asked the person where he sat in the stadium because we could not use our cell phones. My kids routinely sent out text messages with the score. My daughter's friend was working last night and her phone wouldn't work until the 4th quarter.

It's beautiful outside--logging out now...ping me for any updates, it's about 11:00 a.m. your time. Very curious to see how this plays out in the media. One good thing: no one hurt but the...whatever he was who exploded whatever it was!

Ciao for now...

A person blows themselves up and the "authorities" search the K-State players and coaches

Since the dead dude was near the KState buses, they were probably making sure there was no infiltrator trying to get on the buses, and that nothing had been planted on any of the bags.

Doesn't seem stupid to me.

...we no longer have news in this country, but, rather, propaganda

It's become so obvious & so crudely done... it's an GD'd insult.

hoboken109: I remember you raising the same objections on this thread last night. As I mentioned earlier, it'll help if you read the various first-person accounts on this thread before you post your disclaimers. How are YOU so sure that this has nothing to do with Islamic terrorists? Do you have some info the rest of us don't? If so, please share it instead of just expressing your well-worn scepticism.

This is still hearsay, not evidence. I don't know PhiKapMom, so I've no idea how reliable she is, nor her sources; could be dead-on, absolute truth, or something else. I'm interested in reading what she says, but I'm not accepting it as gospel, either. I'll be doing a walk-around onsite tomorrow, unless they cancel classes. If I don't forget my camera, I'll be taking photos, if possible, too. I walked past there this past week, too, so I may be able to see things that are different from what they were, then. (If they DO cancel classes, I'll be more inclined to accept some conspiracy theory, here, too...)

The problem with shutting down cell phone service is that the cell phone is a vital communications link for doctors, safety forces, utilities, and others. It serves as backup in many cases, and is primary communications for anybody that is on the road.

The nice thing about computers is that they can shut down the entire system for the peons, yet allow select numbers to function unimpeded.

No, I dont remember reading that the whole stadium shook .
In these situations there are 100 different versions of what people hear and see. That's why police and professionals have to take time to sort things out before making conclusions.
I'll wait to see what shakes out here. If I HAD to guess I'd say disgruntled , looser, nutjob student who had it iut for the college and wanted to "show them ". Time will tell

I'm not going to jump to conclusions.

On the contrary, you've already jumped to any number of conclusions in this thread. You're very next sentence in your post is a prime example:

I have a feeling next week this whole thing wont even be remembered.

If it will die of its own accord, why are you wasting hours of your own time putting down the opinions or speculations that others might have on the subject today? I guess it's because you just hate seeing us make such fools of ourselves.

The lack of news after the game on local radio was nothing short of astounding. I heard two guys make a comment about the suicide bomber and they found a second bomb and that was it for radio.

Normally, the media would have been reporting 24/7 but almost nothing.

The article by James Tyree of the Transcript had a lot of quotes and little information.

Como se dice' "NASDAQ"?

LOL. You don't know how true that is.

MSM will discuss anything BUT. Right now, the lead story on PMSNBC.COM is (ready for it): "How to improve your office cubicle" -- Just switched back to a Bali lead as I was typing this.

I dont fear it ..I just think it's a real outside conclusion based on not so solid evidence. I think this will be a non story by weeks end.
