The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
Good point. My understanding is that Tet was a horrible disaster for the VC -- last operation they were involved in. After that time, the NVA had to pick up the ball and run with it...
Of course, Hanoi Jane and Senator Kerry decided to AID THE ENEMY in any way they could, and help kill more Vietnamese and Americans...
(Just a reminder that Loose lips sinks ships...)
That's true.
It only takes one person to cause terror -- no matter who he/she is or what cause they represent.
If you hear hoofbeats, think horses.
Yeah to commit suicide by blowing yourself up seems like a lot of effort when a shot in the mouth angled correctly would do the job.
It seems that there were other devices. Usually these are triggered to go off when Emergency, police and fire personnel respond to the blast. It is a typical tactic of terrorists.
Cell phones where I sit didn't start working until around 9:15. After the loud blast, no one around me was using their cell phone. It was the people trying to call in and my two kids trying to instant message out the score of the game that caught my attention after we relized we all had an unusual number of missed calls.
The game was exciting and until the 4th quarter, I didn't give the blast another thought. Just thought AWACS was probably flying around here and why our cell phones were acting up. Then the lady got a call from her sister-in-law in the 4th quarter and it spread like wildfire around us.
Around here it is not unusual for your phone to get turned off when you drive on certain streets or you lose cell phone contact. This was different -- instant messages did not go out.
If I had been listening here in Houston, as I *normally* would have been, if not for my anti-jinx posture this evening, I wouldn't have noticed if Bob Barry had stumbled a bit in his play-by-play after the bombing! Lol, that would've been normal!
Well, you're correct, but I was eating a Strawberry Sundae at the time, you know...
I am not surprised at all about the increasing muslim presence in universities. The PC atmosphere encourages them to do what they want. That and the active support of the leftist organizations and the several "pro-Palestinian" groups. See my bio page for a pic of identified muslim organizations in the USA. Food for thought.....
WTF??
Damn I hope you're wrong.
We had 84,000+ people there tonight and by the Grace of God only one person that we have heard about is dead and they had the bomb. This could have been a terrible tragedy.
Was doing pretty good until I got to the fraternity house and heard my son's fraternity brother who had witnessed it and saw how red one side of his face was. All I wanted to do was get my two kids out of the area then.
I guess we'll find out in a week from now.
I think your theory is very consistent with what we know so far.
Nor am I calling this a "for sure failed terrorist attack". It seems as though you are minimizing everything that points away from anything but an innocent pipe bomb incident. (Multiple bombs ..... suspect blown to bits .... percussion felt in the stands, etc)
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck .....
Hope I'm wrong, but my impression of you before was that of a disruptor of sorts. Welcome to Freerepublic, in any case. We'll know in due time what your thoughts are.

Perhaps 2 weeks ago there was some kind of Muslim terrorist threat regarding our military academies. I remember a Freeper posted that the Air Force Academy game was under tight security. The threat was that some terrorists would do something at a football game. So that may be why you are noticing increased security on campus. With such a large Muslim presence, trouble can't be far away, if only 2% of those students are part of a sleeper cell.
There was speculation from the Madrid and London bombings that cell phones were used as triggers... either by using electric pulse from the alarm on the phone or the electrical pulse from the ringer. so for them to jam the towers or shut them down is not a far off thought... right now though it is all speculation... until more evidence comes in. but my suspicon is the brought the towers offline to prevent panic and any other possible triggers.
just my $.02
Well of course it was a suicide bomber.

Thanks for all the info
True, but the less well trained sometimes have "work accidents", either in the "shop" or on the way to the "work area".
