The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Cindy, thanks for the heads-up on this show. I have been catching it as often as I can. Just amazing what was happening behind the scenes. The most memorable info. to me was Albright at Chirac's residence chasing after Arafat...truth is truly stranger than fiction. A must see documentary.

Mortar Reported Stolen From Battleship Wisconsin (Norfolk, VA - 10/17/05)

A man who lives next to Battleship Wisconsin in downtown Norfolk told us he saw four people steal an inactive mortar from the ship early Monday morning.

NewsChannel three's Priscilla Monti spoke exclusively with the eyewitness who asked that his name not be released to the public. He said he was looking out from his balcony in Harbour Place Condominiums at 5:40 in the morning. At first he saw two silhouettes moving on the ship.

They were walking toward the bridge to Nauticus. As they rounded the bow he noticed two more people. One was carrying a large "dummy" shell. The man says he yelled to them, "Hey I saw you take that. I'm calling the police!"

He said a woman yelled something back to him. Then the four ran off the ship and toward downtown Norfolk. He said it looked like three men and one woman. They were all dressed in black.

By the time police arrived there was no sign of the four culprits. Detectives said they will look at surveillance video to see if the crime was captured on tape. The six-foot-mortar shell is inactive.

Thanks, all4one. I wonder, if they're describing the "mortar" shell as six feet tall, don't they mean one of the shells for the 16" guns? This sounds more like a prank, since they'd have to know it was a dummy round, and there's no way to fire that thing without a honkin' big barrel.

I worry more about the fact that these clowns got access to the Mo' without anyone stopping them.

Fighter Jets Force Landing of Private Airplane for Violating Camp David Airspace (10/17/05)

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Fighter jets forced a private airplane to make an unscheduled landing at an airport after the plane violated restricted airspace around Camp David, the Secret Service said.

F-16s intercepted the single-engine Firefly about 9:30 a.m. Sunday and forced the landing at Frederick Municipal Airport, authorities said. Maryland State Police held the pilot until Secret Service agents arrived.

"We interviewed the pilot and he was unaware that he had wandered into restricted airspace," Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said. The pilot wasn't charged.

Zahren refused to release the pilot's name because he wasn't charged. The plane, which was painted to resemble a vintage Army aircraft, is registered to Gregory Curtis of Raleigh, N.C., The Frederick News-Post reported Monday...

BOISE, Idaho - From the moment Joan Kingsford first saw her husband stagger in his welding shop, she wanted two things: His recovery and to know what made him sick.

She got neither. Alvin Kingsford, 72, died recently of suspected sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, the fatal brain-wasting illness. The disease can be conclusively diagnosed only with an autopsy, which did not take place.

State and federal health officials are trying to get to the bottom of nine reported cases of suspected sporadic CJD in Idaho this year. Sporadic, or naturally occurring, CJD differs from the permutation dubbed variant CJD, which is caused by eating mad-cow-tainted beef and has killed at least 180 people in the United Kingdom and continental Europe since the 1990s....

I know the layout there, and it astonishes me that anyone can get aboard the ship off-hours without being stopped or even seen. I imagine the Naval Museum is going to tighten access even more and put physical barriers up.

I read this article. I daresay that there are a lot more terrorist groups beyond Hamas and AQ in the USA. I once saw a map where major concentrations were shown near major U.S. cities and Miami/Fort Lauderdale had theirs. They are all capable of strikes. But will they strike? I wonder how many Jihadis will actually carry out their missions once they have effectively assimilated into our society and gotten used to such conviences like indoor plumbing etc, I'm not sure it's a certainty they'll go thru with the act....Especially if they're not part of a cell, but rather, acting alone. In a cell, there is mutual support and organization and leadership and possible sanctions for cold feet. I'm sure these groups are fully capable of killing a member's family in the Middle East for failure to obey.

I don't think the navy used mortars. That's strictly for ground pounders in the army or marines. I know of NO such shell that is six feet in length! This must have been some sort of inert naval artillery shell. Being DE-MILLED (rendered inert) I don't know what they might use it for.

After looking at the info. for the USS Wisconsin...I am wondering if they were trying to describe a Tomahawk or Harpoon missile which are listed as having been used on the Wisconsin. And since it is now a museum....maybe there are misc. ordinance that they have as examples on board.

I caught a comment this morning regarding the Avian Flu Drug. Its not a vaccine, like I assumed. I heard its a drug you have to take multiple doses of for it to be effective. Like a vitamin regiment.

Unless somebody is considering a HOAX or a diversionary act....Somebody could I guess pack the hull full of explosives in exactly the same manner as one might weld together 55 gallon drums and pack those with TNT. Same principle. We're not talking a missile warhead here, although that's how it might be played in overseas media....
