The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

I keep hearing on the local radio news that the problem that shut down the Palo Verde Nuclear plant, was something that has been wrong with it since it was built in 1986.

Something about the cooling.

I wonder if all this hoopla is a cover
for something else (~tinfoil hat beginning to glow--small
propeller on top spins madly~) that's on the horizon and heading
our way even faster than the flu?<<<<<<<

The thought crossed my mind, that a flu shot might also contain other things.

Would it be nuts to think the jihadi's would use the flu
as a bio weapon?

I have a faint idea that it was developed in a lab, as was the variety of Sars that kills so quickly.

Yes, I am one who thinks a lot of the new diseases came out of a lab.

What I am finding curious is that the left/commie talk shows are so against this flu and getting shots, that they are foaming at the mouth, sure that this time they will be able to impeach Bush, for lying about the flu.

Not just one program, but all over the dial.

I think the anti flu people scare me more than the flu people do.

I post maybe a tenth of the Promed reports, the bird flu is moving all over the globe and people are dying with it.

Why is it so important for the left to talk people out of getting the shot?

See, I thought that ordinary flu shots don't work on the Avian Flu. There is something called Tammiflu that is supposed to have been effective in helping folks survive, but the strain seems to have grown resistant to this. My doctor told me that I should NOT be getting a flu shot until I'm in my late 50's and that's ten years away. I may get one this year, anyway. Just in case.

Of course I am not surprised that he might be on drugs, it is thick in the casinos.

That a judge released him, is no longer surprising either, where is the old law, all that we needed was a rope and a tree.

You will see another article on him, it will say he "took" money from work and lost it all gambling.

I worked in Sambo's in Kingman, during the 1970's, two customers stand out in my memory, they came in at night, maybe 9pm, were in such a hurry to get to Vegas and use the system they had worked out, that they wanted the entire meal
served at once, all on the table.

I had doubled back and about 7 am, here were these 2 men, in shock, one kept opening his brief case and looking in it and then saying " I can't believe it is all gone, all of it, what went wrong?", he did this every 2 or 3 minutes.

I won't tell others what to do about flu shots, but I have never had one and am twice as old as you are.

There is no perfect answer to the question, but I do not understand how they give a shot for last years variety of flu and expect it to protect for this years variety?

With most medicines, if you read the insert that come with it and tells the bad effects, you wouldn't want to take it.

So many of the new drugs, say they will harm the liver, my daughter in law took it all the time, for colds, the doc would do tests on her liver and say ok, so far, have some more.......

Theresa is now dead one year, with liver cancer that spread every place.

I am taking meds now, and it does not make a lot of difference at my age and shape.

A couple of items to factor in as well. First, pandemic flus seem to hit every 20-30 years. Its been that long since the last global flu. Parallel to this is the memory of the botched 'swine flu' that wasn't. However, the major deadly flu epidemics IIRC were avian-based/related. IF this one mutates fully to human-human transmission and is as deadly as currently appears to be, then there is concern. I think our government is at the correct level of concern and preparation for a worst case scenario. They appear to be trying to raise awareness without the 'sky is falling' reactions or dulling people to the seriousness of the issue.

This report from TASS concerns me. Think about it for a moment. "70 illegal armed formations comprised of about 800 rebels" would equate to 70 arms cells totalling 800 people, which means 11 or 12 people per cell.

OK this is consistent with what we know about terror cells.

But only 800 people are involved in all of the attacks in Russia? I expected more. If you're only talking about 800 people doing that kind of damage... well, I'm concerned. How many active cells or 10 or 12 people do we have in this country?

Moscow, 11 October: It's believed that more than 70 illegal armed formations comprised of about 800 rebels are currently active in Chechnya. "About 700 of them are directly subordinated to (warlords Shamil) Basayev, (Doku) Umarov and (Chechen rebel president Abdul-Khalim) Sadulayev, while 100 are foreign mercenaries," Col-Gen Arkadiy Yedelev, commander of the Combined Force in North Caucasus, told ITAR-TASS today.

The commander said, at the same time, that the bandit groups are recruiting new members from among young people on religious and material grounds.

"Vigorous and targeted actions by power-wielding structures in the North Caucasus region have damaged considerably the network of running the bandit groups that was established earlier. Also, they have somewhat depleted the material, technical and human resources of the rebels. That is why the rebels' terrorist activity has become more sporadic," the general said. (Passage omitted)

"The antiterrorist operation is now aimed at neutralizing the activity of the most notorious bandit field commanders as well as at identifying, preventing and containing the threats of possible preparation and commission of major acts of sabotage," the general stressed.

It makes no difference to the left, they will take the other side.

I just posted a link that is to an Australian paper and says that it fears the bird flu will be used as a bio weapon.

My thought is that the President knows more than we and thinks we are going to get hit with the flu as a weapon.

That I can understand. I suspect that the new diseases are man made.

I knew when I started reading about 2 years ago, that there were plans to dig up the 1918 flu germs, that it would be coming back........the fools printed in public, the full DNA or what ever it is and it can be remade in a lab or so I have read.

I listened to a KGO talk show host rant last night and attempt to get people to join him in an effort to impeach President Bush, for having prompted the soldiers on the questions to ask in yesterday's press conference.

It took only a few minutes of him and I left......but still in shock that he thought it was grounds for impeachment.

I do not go out in public more than 3 or 4 times a year and rarely see people here, so am going to be fairly safe.
