A couple of items to factor in as well. First, pandemic flus seem to hit every 20-30 years. Its been that long since the last global flu. Parallel to this is the memory of the botched 'swine flu' that wasn't. However, the major deadly flu epidemics IIRC were avian-based/related. IF this one mutates fully to human-human transmission and is as deadly as currently appears to be, then there is concern. I think our government is at the correct level of concern and preparation for a worst case scenario. They appear to be trying to raise awareness without the 'sky is falling' reactions or dulling people to the seriousness of the issue.

I just posted a link that is to an Australian paper and says that it fears the bird flu will be used as a bio weapon.
My thought is that the President knows more than we and thinks we are going to get hit with the flu as a weapon.
That I can understand. I suspect that the new diseases are man made.
I knew when I started reading about 2 years ago, that there were plans to dig up the 1918 flu germs, that it would be coming back........the fools printed in public, the full DNA or what ever it is and it can be remade in a lab or so I have read.
I listened to a KGO talk show host rant last night and attempt to get people to join him in an effort to impeach President Bush, for having prompted the soldiers on the questions to ask in yesterday's press conference.
It took only a few minutes of him and I left......but still in shock that he thought it was grounds for impeachment.
I do not go out in public more than 3 or 4 times a year and rarely see people here, so am going to be fairly safe.
